1st tow this weekend with my F250 6.7 PSD...so glad I traded the 6.2 gasser..much better tow...and a 6 mpg improvement over the gasser...sat in 6th gear almost the whole trip locked in at 67mph...as previously stated I made the mistake of the gasser and 6 months later traded to the Diesel. 2014 F250 6.7 PSD with a Windjammer 3006W, Equalizer brand WD hitch. Solid as a rock..was getting about 9 mpg on the gasser, now getting 15.2 mpg with about a 400 mile tow this weekend.

Not everyone. Some of us can't afford a diesel. But God bless ya if you can.

Agree with slideout1961, I have never even thought about buying a diesel. My little gasser does just fine, it pulls the trailer @ 65mph just like any other truck, maybe not from 0-65 as fast, but I'm not in any hurry.

there are those that have a diesel, and those who justify not having/needing a diesel....to each their own but at the end of the day in any given scenario the.. diesel is gonna be a better towing vehicle.......in the end almost every person I have ever debated with agrees that if money were no issue they would use a diesel....then it turns into a pissing arguement about how much $$ I waste ...?? again to each his own...fact is a diesel is made to tow..

amen..!! I was about to buy a used ford and bullet proof it... woulda been half the price I paid....but after watching my father in law and brother tow and love their 6.7 I opted to eat the depreciation and just go new....warranty is worth the peace of mind to me......nonetheless I NEVER wanted a diesel...but....In the end conceeded ..there is no comparison in a gasser and a diesel while towing...none...zero...zilch...anything a gasser will do a diesel will do it better all things equal. .. (in regards to towing)..

I agree there is still a case for the smaller trailers who are not towed much....but my point still stands...

I went from a gas to a diesel and, although the diesel has more power, it certainly is not night and day difference. I was never in a situation with my gasser that I wished for a diesel. The gasser pulled fine with power to spare. The diesel pulls fine with more power to spare. Sorry to burst the diesel bubble but that's the way I see it.

Then you are pulling a light trailer or live in a very flat area. I too used to tow with gas and did it get the job done, sure.. but no where near as well as my diesel. There is a post about getting there quickly earlier and that is spoken from someone who does not understand. It is not at all about speed. It's about the comfort and consistancy. Here in PA we have rolling hills and mountains and very little flat area. My gasser was constantly down shifting and screaming to keep my speed up grade. On those same hills I can have my cruise control set and not down shift a single gear pulling with diesel. Diesel makes all of it's power at much lower RPM's so the towing experience is much nicer. Again, to each their own and I totally understand the cost argument. You have to tow often to justify it but that is a different argument than performance in which there really is no argument.

I whole heartedly agree. You may not need diesel but you need 2500/3500 brakes IMHO. a 5000 lb trailer no problem with a 1/2 ton W/gas engine. But My duramax 2500 makes me a whole lot less stressed than the (2013) 1500 1/2 ton gas truck i had . Wanna pass, wanna get out of the way, stop right now, pulling 7700-9600 LBS, 1/2 ton doesn't even come close. 2500 gas, yeah its ok. But you dont wanna take that to the mountains at 60 MPH. Dont kid yourself, 1/2 ton doesn't even come close to a diesel.

exactly. ..last trip to colorado my best friend swore his tundra could pull his 5800 lb as well as my tuned 250 @ 10k....at the turn to I 40 (45miles in) his tundra was over heating. ...hell my 250 never even came outta 6th gear!!!...and I had the cruise at 60mph....he text me and said "dont say a da"n thing".......lol....we were in a 18mph head wind.......there was NO COMPARISON....

I had nothing to compare before. Now I do. I bought the diesel because I was expecting significant differences. And and good used diesel came on the market here. Fuel mileage is slightly better when towing, probably worse just daily commuting. I'm only speaking of the environment in which I know. It is not an opinion, just fact. Your facts may show something different and I am not arguing that

PS. I was over the towing specs on the gas and I wanted to be "legal" according to the weight police.

To those that don't feel a diesel is worth it I am living proof it is. We had a 28' ultra light that pulled nice. That trailer was to tight for our family so we upgraded to a 31' tt that weights 8000# empty. We bought a 2500 6.0 gasser and it had a very hard time pulling with bad winds and extra weight. I am one to say I wanted to go diesel from the start, but my wife thought it was not worth it. I have been around diesel power for a long time, but have not had to pay for the fuel and the vehicle price due to employer paying for it. I am the first one to say the duramax with the Allison transmission is totally worth the $. If you feel like the diesel power is not worth the $, then post how much you like your gasser because it is cheaper.

Some of us are not saying we wouldn't want a diesel we just can't afford the 7000 dollar premium for one.

Great truck upgrade...remember seeing your Tundra pic before with camper.

My tundra is a 5.7, 4.30 geared and supercharged putting out 505 HP and 545# torque, E rated tires and air bags. This past summer spent six weeks in the Colorado Rockies. The overall trip I averaged 11.2MPG. On 8% grades the computer would read 6+mpg and could hold the speed limit in 4th gear 3k rpm. W/O the trailer I would average 18.5 MPG + in the mountains. Going down some of those grades I would hold 2nd gear and for miles only light break tapping every so often. The only time I did not drive the speed limit was on I-70, on that highway the limit in places is 75mph, I do not pull the RV over 60mph, ST tires and comfort. There is 56K on the clock, about 25k of that pulling the 9k# Cougar 291RLS, 1800 Pin at the cat scales. When I do decide to trade trucks I might think about diesel power, all depends how many miles I get out of the Tundra. Up to now only routine maintenance including a trans fluid change every year.

Ok.

I like my 05 F250 V10 gas burner because it has plenty of power, at least in the flatlands where I live. It was $11000 with right at 100k mi and it is loaded. I looked at similar diesels, and they were either trashed, crazy high miles, or over 20k $$. I can afford to go to a dealer and but a brand new pickup, but why? Mine pulls great, is paid for, very comfy, and paid for. the one trip a year to the mountains doesn't stress it at all. I watch my tranny temp, but have never had to stop due to it getting warm at all.
Oh yeah, and its paid for!

Attachment 42256[/QUOTE]Like you my Tundra is paid for and never a problem with temps and like you, it's paid for

In the long run, a diesel is actually the less expensive choice. The engine should last well over twice as long as a gas engine, and ti doesn't cost nearly twice as much.
