Anti Theft Hitch Locks?

Curious what others are using to deter a thief from stealing your TT. None of the lower cost options are gonna stop someone who's determined. But deterrence can work. I'm looking at the Master Lock shown below.

A big enough sledge hammer will take care of that if you give them enough time.

Hitch lock like you posted, plus heavy chain and padlock through the spokes of two of the wheels (if you are tandem)...
will slow down a thief, but will not stop someone with unlimited time

Devices such as that may deter the opportunistic thief, but not one who is determined. There are a few easy things you can do if your unit is in long term storage that might make it easier to retrieve it. Remove the license tag and bulbs in tail lights. Will draw attention from LEO's if spotted. A determined thief will just drag the TT up on a roll-back and take off. In this case good insurance.

Yea that's why I'm wondering what others do. For me specifically I boondock in some pretty remote places and I'm not at my camper most of the day. I had not thought of removing the plate/bulbs. Thanks.

I don't use anything because it's not going to stop someone who is determined. I don't lock my boat trailers either.

I have good insurance.

Anti Theft Hitch Locks?

Nothing while stored at home. Otherwise we use a fifth wheel hitch lock while camping - just enough to make the guy’s unit next door a bit easier to take than ours.

Just using a basic hitch lock, but it helps that I am able to keep trailer in my driveway year around. Lord help the ones that try to steal it. Our two dogs go insane if they see me just move it down the driveway to wash it and they are not in it or the truck.

I use a simple combination lock as my hitch pin. We live in the city and our trailer sits next to our home. Over the years I have encountered no problem.

In the storage lot, I looked around at what others are doing, and took mine a stop further. That way mine should be the last to go You know the old saying, you don't have to be faster than the bear...

In reality: I store mine with the WDH hanging from the tongue, so I lock the ball in place with a lock through that flip-up thingy (highly technical term), and I put a locking pin through the square shaft. In the commercial storage facility I use, I think that's sufficient.

I was thinking of getting a Tow Ready 'Gorilla Guard' Coupler Lock. And yes, with determination and time, they will win. Deterrence is our best option.

Put lock on ball hitch tang

It's not much but right now it's looked after in our Pastor's yard. If I thought it was going to be an issue I have a 1" cable lock I bought in the early 70's. Put that around both tandem wheels. Yea, they could drag it onto a carrier. Then I'll settle for the insurance. I'm not going get into an argument with the person cause it would get personal and we read in the papers all the time with what happens to those types of folks.

Interesting options.
Like many, minimal deterrence seems to be about all one can hope for.
In my case, truly minimal - a simple latch lock that keeps the coupler from releasing on the road. It's dual purpose.
The principle advantage is that, cheap as it is, it's not possible to get a universal key on it. But I imagine a Stanley "Wonder Bar" would make short work of it. I've stored my PUP in commercial storage, but folded, it presents a modest temptation when compared to other RV options on the lot. Setup for boondocking, the teardown time required to tow it away is a bit of a deterrent.

In the field,. I worry more about my generator (chained and padlocked to a tree), because universal key makes short work of virtually any chain/lock.

Universal key:

I don't use anything........................... I had tried a couple locks but they are so easy to remove that it would only slow someone down a few seconds

I like the slow it down at least a little. Almost any lock will serve the purpose. There are locks out there up to about $400! I definitely wouldn't spend over about $50. Like everyone else has said, if someone really wants it, it will be your chance to talk long and hard with your insurance adjuster and local Law Enforcement Officer. However, if someone is just looking for something quick to take, anything that slows them down helps.
