Any difference in where you haul stuff?

We took our first real camping trip last week. Had this question pop into my head as we were preparing to head out. Does it make any difference where you stow something (TV v. TT)? The assumption in asking this is that I don't have either overloaded so I guess it is just a question of would you rather tow the weight or haul the weight or does it really make any difference at all?

We haul big stuff (generator, tool boxes, blue tote, some chairs), as well as smelly & messy stuff (gas for generator, firewood and kindling) in the truck, as well as stuff I need to hook and unhook the trailer.

the main difference would depend on the weight......anything of real weight will affect your towing if in the trailer
