Any RAM 1500 Diesel Owners?

Has anyone used the new RAM 1500 3.0 L diesel for towing?

Seems like the ideal size for part time towing and good mileage.

It's new, so any info on mileage and maintenance issues welcome.

It's time to decide whether to trade the Burb in ... or keep it.

Not yet, but I hope so for next year. I have the 2.8l cousin to the 3.0l.

I'm surprised that being a diesel, it can only tow #9200, I thought it'd be able to tow a little more then that.

The 3.0l is not from the sprinter and 9200lbs in a stripped down model is good! It is only a 3.0l! My 91 7.3l F350 had a tow rating of just over 10,000 lbs. With the banks turbo added, I took that rating as a suggestion, though.

Not sure the overall pedigree but ...

Sprinter made by Mercedes, who bought Dodge who are now making RAM.

Would like to have some real world info if some folks have one, or drove one.

Haven't seen one come thru the shop yet. They must still be kinda hard to find.

And an FYI, Diamler sold Chrysler back in '07 or 08, diamler and freight liner are still together and have a sprinter line. So its highly unlikely that diamler is helping any with components anymore.

From what I've seen its a VM Motori engine.

Believe it is VM Motori S.p.A. and Italian engine mfgr. Chrysler uses some of their other engines.

Since 2013, Fiat owns 100 percent of VM Motori S.p.A.

Yes, the VM Motori motor. Until earlier this year or late last year, 1/2 owned by GM. I got the VM 2.8l myself.

keep in mind, it's still a half ton, regardless of what's under the hood.

X2...payload & towing capability primarily based on frame and components, not engine size

Yes, we know about payload yada yada. But I am not paying up to 10k more for a 2500 Cummins plus more sales tax and more excise tax and yearly inspections instead of biyearly anf yearly registrations at a higher cost instead of cheaper biyearly just to tow a half dozen times a year. If I am 500lbs over gvw, oh well.

Yes we are nickel and dimed to death. Granted your registration is higher than mine, I think in the end, even registering a 7k GVW 1500, taxes, inspection, etc, will be about 3x more a year until it depreciates below the minimum for taxing.

As far as me getting one, probably not til next camping season. Just don't see it in the finances until next year... IF we get our performance bonus.

I'm hoping with the 1500 diesels I don't have to wait 5 years to buy a used one like with the bigger ones!

I'm expecting some more 1500 truck and SUV models in diesel soon too!

Ok Dodge part of Daimler-Benz 1988-2007 then rattled around till 2011-3 and Fiat bought them. Hard to keep track of companies these days ...

And remember Dodge stopped making pickups and commercial vehicles in 09 when Ram Trucks became it's own company.
