I have towed with the silverado 5.3 and the 3.73 gears and I wouldn't want to even try that much weight plus the tongue weight would be way over.
Mine was a little older than that but same set up other than yours is probably the six speed tranny.
I could be wrong on this and I am sure more knowledgeable people will be along shortly..

That's the max tow package and it claims your able to "tow" that much. I have the 6.2 with the max tow and it has me at 11800# for towing, though my camper isn't that heavy. I did noticed a difference between my '10 1500 with the 5.3 and my '14 with the 6.2 in towing my camper

Where did you see that? It sounds like the standard GM advertising "blurb" that means SOME Silverado's may be able to tow up to 11,200 lbs.
Look in your owners manual and see what YOUR Silverado is rated for. My 2009 owner's manual lists 99 (count'em!) permutations for the Silverado 1500, and it runs from about 4,500lbs up to about 10,700lbs. The 10,700lb is for a 2WD, Extended Cab, Standard Box, 6.0L V8 NHT Max Trailering Pkg with 3.73 rear end. Mine is rated for 7,500 lbs. I have the 4WD, Extended Cab, Standard Box, 5.3L, 4 speed tranny, 3.73 rear end, no towing cooling package.

We tow a 26" Wildwood, roughly 6,000lbs, 850 tongue weight with that setup, no issue. That includes the hills in the Cape Breton Highlands. Likely carry another 100lbs in the bed; generator, bikes, etc.
As noted you need to consider the exact model and options to arrive at your capacity. Ours is the 5.3, 3.73, 6 speed, 4wd, extended cab.

No 1/2 ton should ever tow 11,400lbs. And can't for one reason. Payload. If you bought a TT and loaded it to 11,400lbs then using the average or suggested % for tongue weight it would over load the receiver. A 11,400lb TT will have a 1300+lb tongue weight. That's more than the receiver is rated for. Also if you took that 11,400lbs and added it to the trucks base weight that will equal the trucks GCVWR. And you haven't even put any thing else in the truck. Everything you put in the truck like passengers, firewood, dogs, etc comes off the tow rating. It's virtually impossible as well as unsafe to tow 11,400lbs with a 1/2

I agree 11,500 a lot of weight. We opted for 6084 gross trailer. Tow rating 9600. Don't turn traveling into a chore. Between length and weight.

I couldn't have replied any better myself. It is not only the maximum trailer towing capacity (conventional or fifth) you have to consider, it is the tongue weight, hitch rating (WD or non-WD), GCVWR and GVWR and use the actual truck's payload rating ("red" sticker in the door jamb) when calculating. Base weight shown in the manufacturer's specs tend not to include the options on your truck that reduce your actual truck's payload rating ... it adds up. Truck salesmen typically do not divulge this information, but it is in your owner's manual. Ask a trailer salesman about vehicles buyers show up with to purchase the trailer of their dreams ... it is not pretty. If you go with "awwww, my truck can handle it just fine", you will be white knuckle towing and that is no fun ... that first mountain grade up and down, panic stop or emergency swerve will have you quickly realizing how much fun it is not.

I used to tow a 6500lb tt with an 08 5.3. I now tow the same weight with an 13 2500hd 6.0l. No difference in fuel economy but truck handles the weight much better and traveling in much more pleasureable, which is why we got the trailer. My axle ratio is 3:73 and fuel economy when I'm not towing is about 3-4 mpg less all factors being equal.

I looked at the ratings and figured there was a lot of blue sky in them so I went to a campground and talked to folks who towed units similar to ours. Used that information combined with what I wanted the truck to do and made out decision from that. Happy with my choice.

My F350 is rated to tow just a little more than those high number 1/2 tons.
Think about that.

My 3/4 ton ranges from slightly less to slightly more of the advertised range of those 1/2 tons. Since I have towed with a 1/2 ton I will stay with the 3/4 ton.

Towed with 1/2 tons trucks for years and they did fine. Then I moved up to a 3/4 ton truck and it's sooo much nicer towing. I'll never go back!
My own rule of thumb for towing, 6500lbs 1/2 ton towing max. More then that I want a 3/4 ton truck.
just my 2 cents
