Anyone towing a full size pickup with a Forester or Sunseeker?

Hi everyone.

Just wanting to see how many are using a full size pickup with the Forester or Sunseeker. I'm considering towing my Chevy extended cab truck, short bed 4 down.

What are your experiences in the mountains and what type of braking system on the truck are you using?

Any experiences would be helpful.

Thanks!

FWIW, here's a link to an article which gives a description of the various brake systems for 4 down towing... All About Dinghy Towing Part II – Tow Equipment & Supplemental Brakes | Wheeling It

Well the truck is about 5500 lbs. the hitch is rated 5000 lbs and 500 tongue weight. With weight distributing it goes to 10,000 and 1000 lbs I believe. I will check again this weekend. Point is when you flat tow there is very little on the tongue so the 10000 lb rating would apply.

Thanks for the link!

If you say so.....

If the hitch is rated 5000lbs, it is 5000 lbs whether there is tongue weight or not.

We do probably 5-8 base plate and tow bar installs a month, and the hitch rating still applies. Tongue weight is for trailer towing.

So then why is the same hitch rated 10000 lbs with a weight distributing equipment? Really I'd like to know your thoughts if I'm wrong.
