B&W Companion question

I am in the process of buying a 2008 Rockwood 8281SS and have a bought a used B&W since I already have the B&W gooseneck setup in my truck. This is my first 5ver and I'm not sure how to adjust the hitch as, the seller didn't have the instructions anymore. Just have two questions: How do other users like the B&W and If I set the hitch back to allow the maximum 4 inches of clearance from the cab, does it create problems while towing?

Matt that is how I have mine set up. I am in a 3/4 ton crew cab short bed Chevy, with a tool box. I have no problems towing at all. My trailer wieghs about 9,500 lbs with all my junk in it. I love the hitch..can't say enough good stuff about it. When I unhook, takes maybe five mins to have the whole thing out of the bed and back to normal.. The only complaint I have, and it is no big deal. If you have the handle pined in the open position you have to climb up on the side of the truck to pull the pin out to be able to close the handle.. But I can live with that, I have no rails or other stuff in the bed when I am done. If you have any questions about set up or anything in the instructions let me know, I still have mine. I love when people look at it and they can't believe it is a 17K lbs hitch... Oh don't know if the last owner told you or not but the nuts on the U bolts are tourqed to 80 lbs, and the bolt on top of the hitch is 40 lbs.

Re: B&W question

Sounds like we have the exact same setup. I am towing with a 2011 Chevrolet 2500HD. I appreciate the help. Have you had any problems in a tight backup situation since the clearance is minimal?

No not really. My Crusader has the 88 degree turning radius nose on it, so that helps a bunch. But my tool box is the type that sits up on top of the bed rails. Just have to watch what you are doing if you get into a really tight spot. But for the most part it is no big deal at all.
