Replacing the ball and it's mount will be cheaper and better so I agree with your approach.

Kind of a PIA right now but you will like it much better when done.

Dealer installed 3500 companion literally 15 min before acceptance of our camper. (Dealer ordered for 800$!) I didn't inspect hitch then, or when I hooked up for 1st trip a week later. Experienced chucking on pull home, researched, and figured not enough wt on the pin. Less chucking on 1st camping trip, I put this off to Louisiana back roads!
Come Monday, decided to pull the hitch. Actually pulled base up 3" or so without loosening the draw down. Dealer installer missed the drawdown bar, just torquing the bolt to the frame only. I know, I started pulling a hay trailer @ 10yrs old. Pulled trailers all my life. But I trusted someone else. Never again!
Had a long talk with all involved @ dealership, but it was ultimately my fault.
Sign me embarrassed!!

It is your fault because you did not stand there and babysit the grownup that installed your hitch, BAD CAMPER, BAD!!!

So my updated plan is to buy a B&W turnover online (Tweety's or eTrailer,) have them ship it to my Dodge dealer (where my truck is at the moment having some warranty issues addressed,) and have the dealer tech do it, on a lift--that's gotta be easier than me crawling around under there. But I am a little worried that they're gonna screw something up (ala D-Maxx,) so I'll have to look over it very carefully. It's just bolting a bunch of bolts through the frame, right?

Btw: Tweety's and eTrailer are EXACTLY the same price? Really? I smell collusion...

I sincerely hope that the holes for both hitches line up or there will be a big hole on the bed. Or two holes.

Yeah, I've already resigned myself to the fact that the two holes probably won't line up and I'm going to end up with one big hole. I'll probably have to fabricate some kind of drop-in plate to go around the ball once it's all done to cover it up...

Taran, dude! I didn't see your PM until today. I was actually fixing to go through my pictures to show you my hole.

This sucks!

It does indeed sucketh, but it will all be fixed soon. The real deal has been ordered and is on the way to the dealer. I called my service guy this morning and told him he can have his tech start ripping that off-brand turnover ball outta my truck in prep for the name brand!
