Back-up camera

We made our very first trip with our very first camper a couple of weeks ago. It was interesting and a lot of fun. Especially the gas stations. We made it safe and sound but we were thinking about investing in a camera to help with changing lanes and with backing up. We plan on going back up to NYS in September and would like to take some of the pressure off the driver. Any suggestions? We are not sure how well they work or what to look for.

I, personally, would stay away from wireless systems. Unless things have changed a lot since I last researched camera systems, reception range can be problematic. Night vision and voice are nice touches. Reversible vision on the monitor is a must. I'm not sure what is currently available so I can't suggest any makes or models.

Thank you! I didn't know that there was such a thing --reversible vision. I will keep that in mind.

I got a cheap camera for leas than $20 off eBay that I mounted in the license plate. Got a long RCA cable and zip tied it under the trailer and to my 7 pin power cord. I ran the 17' video wire that came with my $30 flip up monitor off eBay ( sits in dash) next to the 7-pin connection on truck. When I plug in my power cord I connect the video wires too. I ran a power wire under the trailer as well and connected it to my battery kill switch. This way the camera is always on when driving, sure makes changing lanes a whole lot easier, I can now see if the crabs behind my trailer or right at the corner. Hole project was about $75 with wire, camera, monitor and the black plastic wire covering to protect it. Took about 1 hour to get the wire in the plastic stuff and 20 mins to install. Love it

Monitor. The seller no longer has any monitors but here is the link to "similar items". You can find a bunch of 3.5 or 4.3" monitors cheap on eBay. Also some of the rear cameras have microphones and the screens have speakers so you can hear the person behind the trailer easily

Great thanks for the info, out of interest does this type of setup show the left and the right the correct way round if you were looking in a mirror or do I need one that has a reverse function on the image, if that makes sense.

What I need is an image on the screen like you would see in a mirror, i.e. if you see something on the left on the screen it is on the left hand side of the trailer, otherwise brain fade comes into play and that is how errors are made.

If you have factory navigation in your TV you can install a Lockpick and camera then view it on the factory screen. I have one on order and will be doing this myself.

Yes it does. Note: One of the things about license plate mounts. The are 180• mountable. Just make sure you have the correct way "up" before you mount
