I pull with a SWB GMC 2500HD using a SuperGlide hitch and MorRyde pin box. No chucking, and SuperGlide is flawless turning 90 degrees, forward or backward, without having to give thought to the angle. All automatic, mechanical, no electronics.
If I had to buy new, would do exactly the same thing. Regardless of your brand selection, highly recommend getting an automatic slider if you have a short bed. When you need it, you need it.

The downside is that hitching and unhitching can be difficult at first until you understand the process. Once you get the hang of it, easy as pie.

You should also check out OldCoot's pictures. Hopefully he will also post a reply. He has a cover on the truck that he can use while he is towing. Sounds like you have a similar cover. He also has a way to stop any "chucking".

We have a B&W companion hitch in our 2008 Chevy 2500HD. This hitch uses the existing B&W gooseneck turnover ball type hitch that was already installed in our truck when purchased. The companion hitch is an add-on that B&W created to use. The beauty of these hitches is that in about 5 minutes I can have a completely clean truck bed after I remove the hitch and hardware. No rails to deal with and it pulls like a dream. I also have the AirRide suspension add-on that is made by TrailAir and that also makes a huge difference.

I also vouch for the B&W companion with the turnover ball hitch!

You will find hitches that will do what your needs are. I use the Superglide hitch with the Morryde pin. We just came back from 2700 mile trip in Colorado mountains. Many of the RV spots were tight. We made a lot of 90 degree turns to get into some of the spots. I also have a short bed truck, Chucking is something if you do not get right, you will soon after. It feels like jumping back and forth to me. I have none of this feeling now.

Me too! Companion 3500. No noise, and when removed, bed is empty.
Only draw back is, it is heavy.

I've heard great things about the Anderson hitches, but no personal experience. I had a Reese Goosebox installed on my Silverback 29RE, and a B&W turnoverball installed in my F250 SD 6.5' bed. The Goose Box replaces the stock pinbox, and uses the Fifth Airborne technology with a dual shock absorber and an airbag. It pulls nicely, with almost zero chucking and jerking. Highway bumps are rarely felt in the truck, and are much softer than anything I've driven before.

After putting the RV up, I flip the ball and my truck bed becomes flat again.

I really liked how the B&W companion was built, but when not towing, you have to lift that heavy thing in and out. Not a problem when I was 30 or 40, or even 50. It becomes a problem at 62.

I just didn't want to be lifting a hitch in and out of my truck bed. Another benefit (even over the Anderson) is that when I'm hitched to the 5er, I have a lot more free space in the truck bed. Just an observation.

Finally, let me say this. You are doing yourself a huge favor by asking this question and getting input from other 5er owners. Because there are hitches out there that will make your towing experience a miserable one. Trust me on this,....I've been there. Drive a chucking/jerking heavy 5er down Interstate 10 between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. You'll swear that the trailer is about to rip loose and go flying across the highway median.

I highly recommend the Goosebox/turnover ball hitch setup.

Good luck

Another vote for the B&W Companion hitch.

I have a small chain hoist that would pick it out of the bed with no problems, I would build another dolly to move it around when not in the 250.

Like so.

Hitches and Couch

(I also have the Bak Flip F1 cover, and am hoping it will fold out of the way ok).

I would appreciate all comments. We are in Arkansas, but possibly going to Couch in Hamilton OH first of September to view their stuff (any comment on that dealer is welcome also!!!).........on our way to STL to see a few Cardinal games.

Thoughts?????
I didn't have the Chev Duramax, had a short bed F350 instead with Reese 15K Pro slider. This setup worked really well with my 30' Sundance with 2100 lb. pin weight. DW hated the metal on metal screech when sliding the hitch back but keeps from putting camper hickies on your cab. The 15K Pro was too light when we upgraded to a larger fiver so went with the Reese Elite 18K which drops in to Ford truck beds. Our larger fifth wheel also has a Trailair pin box which makes for a very comfortable ride in the truck.

I had a 3 fold Bak FLip on the short bed Ford 350 which worked well with the Sundance but the Trailair hitch interfered with the Bak Flip when 2 sections were down. Sold it and got a Retrax sliding cover and never looked back, best investment I ever made.

We live 45 minutes from Couch RV and can tell you they move a lot of products through that dealership. The majority of what they sell goes out of state so be sure your local dealer will honor warranty on an RV purchased somewhere else. My brother-in-law bought a Wildcat from them and it was an easy and pleasant transaction but he never went back for warranty work.

When we were in the market for a fifth wheel we looked at Couch several times at their location and RV shows. We never found what we were looking for so ended up purchasing at Holman RV which is located about 20 minutes from home. Holman has serviced two of my fifth wheel RV's and while it takes some time to get in line the service work has been top notch.

There's a lot to be said for having a local dealer that can/will service his customers. If you decide to visit Holman while in the area let me know and I can provide you with a good contact.

Good luck!

My truck already had the B&W turnover ball setup so I did the opposite of most and went with the Reese Goosebox. It replaces the stock pinbox. It has suspension in it for a smooth, noise free ride. It is also only approved gooseneck setup by Lippert as Far as factory warranty goes. If you truck has a ball then this is the easiest way to go. It is good for up to 16k units.

Good points Doc.

Reese also makes a 20,000 lb Goose Box.

Mustard, that's the first question I thought of as well. One would either leave it in the truck all the time or rig up an overhead winch.
