My 2005 F-350, crew cab diesel has a GCWR of 23,000. My actual combined scale weight loaded with a full tank of fuel and 1/3 tank of fresh water is 20,400. That gives me a buffer of 2,600. I ordered the truck with the 4,000 lb payload option, with an actual hitch weight of 2,820 it leaves me with a buffer of 180. Our Cardinsl 36TS has a GVWR of 14,400, but my loaded scale weight is only 12,660, again leaving a buffer for safety. We have single rear wheels, a dually will use up 900 lbs of the payload. We have travelled over 49,000 miles throught most of the country including many times over the Rockies in Colorado without incident. My point is, it pays to get more truck than you need.
