Best Current LT tires for F150?

Looking at Michelin's Defenders or Goodyear Adventure Wrangler w/ kevlar. Both are 10 ply. 50 and 60k mileage warr. Only Michelin are load rating E. Goodyear are C.

Thanks

That's what I had when I had my F150 and I really liked them. I stayed with stock 20" size and they were load range D. I thought it was an excellent tire for the F150. Much better for towing than the passenger tires it came with but not as harsh a ride as I think an E would have.

I've had LT D's and E's on two different F150's. JMO here but E's are overkill. When I had my last F150 (2010 Screw 4x4 Max tow) I had E's on it. Discount Tire said all that was needed was around 45 psi to carry the max load on the F150. I had D's on an 2008 F150. I think the max was about 50 psi. The ride on the D's was better and the difference in towing was the same. I really like the D's overall much better. They were Cooper Discover ATP IIRC. The E's were Michelin LTX IIRC.

FWIW I towed the same SOB TT with both trucks so I had a good comparison.

Hard to beat Michelin's quality and track record.
I've had the LTX M&S (now Defender) on all my towing vehicles for many years.

LR E is never a bad thing.
Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference in ride between them and D's
You don't have to run them at max P.S.I. when not towing.

Not too sure I'd want the less stiff sidewall of LR C's for towing.

Everyone has an opinion, now you have mine.

I had a couple sets of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 tires on previous trucks and I plan on replacing the stock tires on my new truck with them when its time. I found them to be quiet on the highway and they had good grip on snowy roads. I tried Michelin LTX M/S2 LTs on my F-150 and they weren't as good as the Bridgestones for me. Ford put Michelin LTX A/T2 LT tires on my new F-250 and I still like the Bridgestones better.

truck Tires

I've been running Bridgestone M773 for years. Great tire for traction, quiet ride and great mileage!

My parent's have run LRC LT's for years and tow pretty heavy gooseneck trailers loaded with cattle- lot's of side to side motion- with their F150 with no problems. I think the REALLY big jump in handling for towing is the P to LT jump.

What PSI did you run them at for towing and everyday driving. Looking at getting these tires soon for my F150 with 20" wheels.

It's been a while, but IIRC, I ran at 42 for everyday driving and went to 50F 65R when towing.

I went with LT275/65R20 Michelin LTX A/T 2 load range "E" at $1,200 including "E" valve stems, mounting, tax, tip, and my "old tires" for my Tundra. My Flagstaff Classic loaded is 9,000 lbs and it came with load range "C" which were right on the hairy edge of necessity from my perspective, so I also replaced the 5th wheel tires with load range "E", but I run them at 70PSI rather than 80PSI.

Hello tbln930, I have the Michelin LTX MS2 ( E rated ) tires on my 06 f150 and love them, they are a 70,000 mile tire. They do make a little road noise but nothing like my old Cooper's did.
Both of your choices are good, I don't think you will have any issues with ether one. Good luck.

I have the Goodyears on my 2015 F150 and do not like them. Hard to keep balanced rough ride when cold. I'll go back to Michelin tires from now on.

I agree. MICH LTX or now whatever they call them. M's seem to get UV cracking on the surface of the side wall but I still wear them out before they ever fail.

. NEVER again LR C to tow . Made that mistake when my neighbor illinformed tire dealer sold me. " Specially made" SUV / VAN tires for my 3/4 ton Chevy Van to tow a 25 ft TH. First two trips, two blown tires. Thank God each time the spare got me to camp.

Was a new guy to big trailer towing then. Nearly 30 yrs ago.

Now hopefully I have learned a little.

Can you tell any difference from the old C tires to the new E's?

I guess I never mentioned our F150 has the 18" wheels.

We were at Table Rock lake in Missouri last week and a near identical size/weight rig near us had LT E Hankook DynaPro tires which I am not familiar with (must be Asian) and said he really liked them. Reviews I have since read claim high mileage similar to the Mich LTX M/S2. It's seems folks buy these who don't want to spend on the BFG's for heavy towing and don't like Michelin for the noise. Anyone tried them?

We will probably end up with the Michelin.
