Isn't a hitch lock to prevent the "GO!" ?

heavy duty chain locked thru the holes in the wheels... makes it really hard to move the trailer at all without replacing the wheels

I just use a regular padlock. Keeps the honest people honest. If someone wants to steal it, they will find a way regardless of what you do.
I don't go to any extremes with my vehicles either...
That's what insurance is for.

Run that chain over the axle too. Then even if the wheels are removed it's still chained to the trailer.
To the OP, what hitch lock are you looking for, a reciever 5/8" pin lock, a ball hitch latch 1/4" pin lock, or a coupler ball lock?
Or are we talking 5th wheel pin locks?

I have one of these. Expensive but I’m not worried about anyone taking my trailer. Also locks up the chains.

Thanks for all the awsum posts.
How about just the simple receiver hitch lock to lock an expensive WDH to the truck? I see lots of them on Amazon with mixed reviews .

You have to spend hundreds to get a lock that can't be defeated by a 12 year old with internet access, a bobby pin, and 5 minutes. I use Master Lock, but it's a company whose products are somewhere between fraudulent and shameful.
Abloy padlocks are about the only reliable locks out there, in terms of theft prevention.
I would look for a containment device that accepted a padlock. Something like this:
Then add a suitable Abloy lock.
Proven Industries has a really stout mechanism and some good YouTube demonstrations. However, the lock is the weak point here.
Otherwise, just go cheap.
Good luck.

I use a Reese brass coupler lock. Simple, cheap ($8 on Amazon), and has worked for over 10 years on different trailers that I kept in storage. I also lock the chains underneath the A-frame with another padlock.
I'm in mine full time now with some fabulous nosy neighbors that keep an eye on things while I'm at work. My trailer is also visible to the park office and they are equally nosy.

I have one of these - pin lock - not sure what brand mine is but it's well made and I've had it for years.
