Ford did indeed offer Cummins and Cat engines for the 650/750 trucks until they were satisfied with the reliability of their new 6.7 PSD, speaks volumes does it?

I used to do it all the time when we were kids. We had a Chevy Luv and pulled the boat down to the lake with it. That was how you did it back then. It was pretty normal.

I hope nobody was seriously suggesting to the OP to let to passengers (his kids?) ride in the back of the truck.
My timeline may be off but around 20 years ago 10 miles from where we had our farm 9 grade 12 high school kids at graduation time got into a 1990ish Ford Ranger ext. cab, 4 in the cab 5 in the box. Now there are 5 crosses marking the spot where they died and right after this accident new legislation was introduced saying a vehicle can only transport as many occupants as there are seatbelts and wearing a seatbelt is mandatory anyways. Five years ago my son was t-boned by a pickup truck carrying Mexican farm workers in the back that was hit from behind while making a left turn, luckily the Mexicans were here legally and insured but they were still riding in the back of the truck illegally. Luckily for the farmer the Mexicans were in this accident after work or else it would have been a big problem for the farmer.

Well saw a lot of interesting scenarios so I think for the best part I'd go with the topper and boot and add seats bolted down to the truck bed and next to rear window and then in stall a roll bar just ahead of seats. That way you have pickup cab and part coverage for roll plus roll cage. Now that is if he intends to carry all 8. His choice his worry about safety. Later RJD

Honestly,
The most cost effective solution would be a used diesel Excursion.
After that, a used 34 motorhome bunk house + 8 passenger vehicle behind would cost the same or less than a 1ton truck + 12K lbs trailer and you can use the vehicle as your daily driver....

Gee John. If the seats were backed up to the rear of the cab, wouldn't the PU top handle protection for them, as well as those in the back seat of the PU truck. Just curious. Inquiring minds want to know.
Then again, since we're gonna focus on worst case scenarios, maybe the guy and his 7 passengers should just stay home and take up crocheting. That'd be safe, as long as they didn't poke somebodies eye out.
One things for sure, if you want to know how to do something, ask those who can, not those who can't.

Just as structurally sound as a convertible or a motorcycle, and those are both legal. I have pondered this idea and researched it a little. There actually is a company that makes a seat system with 5 point harnesses for adding 2 seats to the back of a truck. If I were to do it, I'd add a custom built roll bar system hidden inside a camper with a cab cutout. Install a bed carpet and have the underside of the camper carpeted and you'd have a great setup -pending you did a good job on the cab/bed cut and knew how to finish it out. If you knew how to do the work you could probably make this happen for $3000-$4000 dollars. Didn't mention it earlier because most people wouldn't have the tools or know how to make it happen, though.

Let's just leave it at.. "whatever you're comfortable with" and call it good.
Now.. let's get back to the Crux of the discussion..
Can a 5-ounce bird carry a one-pound coconut?

Look at how much more weight an ant can carry, vs what it weighs.
Oh, to answer what's a henway, need to know if it has lips or not
