BF Goodrich Tire Question

I could really use some help. I have been researching tires for my 2013 Ford F150 Supercrew and thought I was set to go on Michelin Defender LTXs however I just discovered the BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2s and now I'm really torn. Right now I’m running 265/60r18 tires however I'm moving to 275/65r18 so I can go to an E rated 10 ply tire. I read a lot of really good reviews on the KO2s but more of them were on conditions in snow and mud and not a lot about pulling trailers so I'm just curious if anyone is running those on your truck and if so what do you think of them. I love the aggressive look of them and they seem to hold up just as good as the Michelins and even the Nitto Grapplers and Crossteks which I was considering before. Thanks in advance for your reviews.

I run the 275/65/18 KO2's on my 16 f150 and pull a 30' Coachmen Apex 300bhs, dry weight 6100 lbs, and I have no complaints with them, got them just before I bought the trailer so can't really compare them to anything. They do look great and are great in the snow.

I bought the KO2's for my 03 Chevy about 6 months ago and I really like them, it had used KO1's I guess when I bought the truck in 08 and those lasted longer than the mastercraft courser's I had before getting the new set of KO2's, so I'm hoping these new ones will be as good, they have great traction and when pulling I don't notice any more noise than normal and they do look good.

BF Goodrich Tire Question

I was told for LT applications stay with Michelin or BF Goodrich and you won't go wrong. I have AT ko1?? With about 35-40k on them. They are holing up ok...rotated over the weekend. Will most likely buy the 2's when ready. The set has come down a couple hundred since last time 285-70 or75-17 less than $1000 OTD discount tire over weekend

I have KO2s on my Hummer . We used to pull a 29ft Surveyor without any problems. They are a good quiet road tire and great off road and in snow.

Hello, as long as you don't have snow upsize will be OK. I did that and constant snow buildup in the fenders.

The KO2 will be really noisy on the road.Definite off road performer

I would look at Michelin LTX AT2, they work good in snow and sand at campgrounds. Quiet on the road too!

Have to disagree about being noisy on the road, really haven't noticed them to be any louder then just a regular all season tire.

A 6 ply tire is more than a half ton pu needs and will ride a lil better than 10 ply.

The KO2 is about as quiet at my stock P rated road tires despite the aggressive tread pattern. From inside the cab, you can tell no difference. So, no they are not a noisy tire.

+1 here. You do not need an E rated tire on a half ton unless you are WAY over your rated weights. That is IF, you can find the size you are looking at in a C or D. D rated KO2s do great on my F150 and weigh less saving me gas when not towing, but I had to change one size to get Ds. My D rated tires are rated to 3,000 lbs, where the E rated tires would be rated to 3750 in as close of a size as they sell. Overkill comes to mind. And, the Ds are 15 lbs lighter per tire than those similar E rated KO2s.

OP: The Michelin vs Goodrich debate will just come down to personal use expectation and personal preference. Both make great tires. KO2 definitely has a more aggressive look. If I didn't go off road, tow when camping and/or didn't want that look, I would go with the Michelin LTX. I wanted all of that so I went KO2 D rated. I couldn't be happier. 43 PSI when not towing. 52 PSI when towing.

Had an older BFG fail last year. BFG replaced failed tire plus the other 3 for about 1/4 the cost. Replaced with KO2's & am very satisfied. They are not noisy at all & ride & pull very well. No problems with snow here in Florida. When dealing with BFG found out they are made by Michelin.

BTW, had a set of Nittos & hated them. Very noisy & rode rough.

If my sources are correct....same company. Michelin if you have the money(and they make what you want) BF if they/you can't/don't. IMO

Just my personal observations...

I ran the All terrain TAKO/KD's on my F35o 4x4 diesel for a number of years (until they were down to the tread wear indicators (1/16" tread depth), here's what I found...

One: Your fuel mileage will drop
Two: The are not noisy at all
Three: They last a while because the tread compound is hard so they don't grip in the rain or wet roads all that well.
Four: If you drive on gravel roads (lie I do), the tread will start to chunk as they wear down.
Five: Because of the tread pattern, the tread blocks retain stones that are then tossed out and chip your paint
Six: Expensive. There are other alternatives out there in a 10 ply that are more reasonably priced.

I switched to Michelin all season (have a 60K treadwear) warranty and are a bit less expensive plus the tread is a bit less aggressive and they don't throw stones like the TA's do.

And yes, Michelin and Goodrich are one in the same.

Love them

I'm running KO2's on my suburban and love them. Have only had them about 6000 miles. I'll agree that they definitely hold and throw more rocks than the bridgestones I had.

Couple things to keep in mind. You need to rotate them every 10K miles or so, especially if you ha a diesel pickup because the torque of the engine when going around a corner tends to try and break traction on the inside tire, rotating them keeps them wearing evenly and keep them aired up to 80 psi (the recommended inflation pressure.

I went with a more all season tread because of the stone issue, the rockblast is hard on paint.

I got 50K out of mine, your tread life will vary according to your use.

You are going wider and to a higher aspect ratio, increasing the diameter of the tires, effectively changing the gear ratio of the truck. Be careful, you may not have the pulling power you had before.

FYI everyone Michelin owns BF Goodrich and the BF Goodrich brand is suppose to be made using same technology as Michelin. They also own another American tire company but I am having a senior moment and can't remember the other company.

Just went down from a Bridgestone M600 ( E ) to the C in the KO2s. Was comparing against Michelins, but wanted better off-road capability. The KO2 seems very stiff for C sidewall, they ride much better than the E and still handle well on my Suburban. I tested out their all-terrain ability on a steep muddy mountain trail recently and never had to engage the 4x4. Impressed, and no louder than the more highway centric tires I just replaced.
