Blue Ox Super Ride 5th Wheel Hitch

Anybody towing with one of these?

I guess it was around most of last summer but I did't notice it until this past weekend when it was featured at the Pittsburgh R/V Show.

The cushioning concept looks simple yet effective.
The slide (actually pivot) is interesting too.

Available in rail mount or gooseneck ball mount.
Comes apart in three 50# pieces. (so I was told)

Thanks for sharing. That unit would be my pick over the Andersen for sure.
The only thing is they rely on having enough adjustment on the pinbox for ride height which may be an issue for some.

I saw this one a few months ago myself and have taken an interest in it, the Super Ride that installs on top of existing gooseneck ball in bed. The idea that I could have a ball mount for my home based needs, and then just slip a 5th wheel onto it for RV needs seems rather interesting. Not needing something like this yet, but would make for a interesting option in the future.

Functionality is what catches my eye. With a flip ball gooseneck, when empty, the entire bed of the pickup is available. When using a gooseneck, like a dump trailer or equipment trailer, flip the ball and go to work. When needing to pull a 5W RV unit, just mount the Super Ride onto the ball and take off. When get back home, remove the 5th, flip the ball, and the entire bed is available.

I was told the hitch head assembly has three height adjustments. (see 1:17 in the video)
With that AND the pinbox, it should be fairly adjustable for any need.

FYI - Andersen = 32# all in
Blue = 60# hitch, 210# including rails

FYI...
Anderson = no sliding option or cushioning.
Blue = no attachments to the pin box, no cables to mount, no safety chains.

I'm not trying to get in a pizzing contest over which is best.
That horse has been beat to death with the Anderson fans never owning anything else and the rest somewhere across the board.

My point is... all hitches have their pros and cons.
I was simply looking for some advice from an experienced user of this one.

You're right, I missed that in the video.

Agreed. Plus the Blue has a pretty small foot print and breaks down easily.
I'd like to see one in person to check the gauge of the materials used.
The Blue Ox hitch deffinitely looks stout enough for me to be comfortable.

The display (actual model) seen at the R/V show looked well made.
The components seemed to be laser/water jet cut and the welds looked professional. (robotic)

My current hitch is a 15k slider. (that in 20 years I've never slid)
I'm looking to increase the capacity some and I'm looking for some cushioning without the bulkiness of air bags and super heavy hitches/pin boxes. This seems to fill that need.

B&W Turnover Ball with their Companion 5th wheel hitch have supported that for a long time. In fact, that was my selling point initially - 100% empty bed.

As I'm eyeing up a trailer with a 21k GVWR, one thing else to point out is the Andersen is 24k and the Blue is 20k.

Then the Blue Ox isn't for you.

Blue OX hitch

Had one installed in our 2016 F-250 Lariat diesel when we bought our Columbus 5er. after Thanksgiving Only towed twice but it does ride smoothly and is very easy to latch and unlatch. It can be removed in 1 piece by 2 guys or in 3 pcs. as you said.
My only complaint is with the truck; due to the middle headrest in the back seat, it is difficult to line up when hooking up. Use the DW for guidance.

Thanks for the input.
As an aside, the middle headrest on my 2017 F-250 is removable. I took it out on first tow and haven't put it back.

Blue Ox

I have a Blue Ox 6200. I have had it out once from MN to Branson. It seemed to do fine as I am knew to pulling 5th wheels but not new to pulling a trailer. I have been in contact with Blue ox about a couple of things. It seemed to spin on the ball of my gooseneck about 1/4 inch. They can a fix which I have not tried. The other issue that they are looking into is the shock towers have about 1/4 play in them. So when it is in the tow position it rocks back about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Does anyone with slider experience have theirs do this. Does not seem unsafe just thinking I could elimate some chunking as they call it.
