Just a comment/something to consider when choosing a 2.5" shank.

I have a Class 5 (2.5") receiver, and decided to use a reducer, and I decided to weld it in to avoid any slop.

My TV broke down middle of nowhere. Called a tow truck to haul both the TV and the TT. Truck showed up, and needed to use my shank/hitch in order to tow my TT. TV was loaded on the flatbed.

Tow truck's hitch was a 2". Had I had a 2.5" shank, tow truck driver said the trailer would have been left on side of the road.

Good question.....its preference for me......just like the way it looks....enjoy the elevated ride.......gotta laugh though.... I see more big trucks in the Sunshine state then I ever did in WI.......did take awhile to get use to climbing in

Where I live in southern Indiana, the Ohio river is flooding and lifted trucks are about the only vehicles getting thru the flood waters......

For the vast majority of people it's a looks thing. Only other advantage is in off road capability. You can tell by looking at most of them they are NOT driven off road- at least not in any way that would require a lift. I suppose you could argue that it's safer since any type of head on collision would probably result in you going over the other vehicle- as long as it wasn't lifted, too.
