brake control
I have a 2010 Silverado 1500 that I'm looking to get a brake control for and looking for some suggestions from others. I'd like a 'plug and play' if possible, meaning that when I'm not towing, I'd like to remove the control box so its not always in my truck, if it has to be connected all the time, is there a way I can do a custom install so its somewhat hidden from view?
I've looked at the prodigy the the cw site, but I'm looking for suggestions from others on what they use and which one is the 'best' one.
My TT is a 27' Revere if that helps

I have the Tekonsha P3. It does everything I want it to and comes with a permanent mount or a clip mount, which allows you to take it out of your truck if desired.
Either P3 or P2 is fine with your trailer. Both are proportional, which is what you want. I don't know what campers world is asking but adventurerv.net is $99 for the P2 and $129 for the P3 with the Chevy wiring harness
I'm not sure there is a "best one" although I have read about more expensive brake controllers that do a little bit more but are many times the cost.

i think you'll find that the Prodigy brake controllers, are the #1 most recommended ones on all the RV forums.
RVW has great prices for them.

Ditto, I just switched to a Prodigy P2 and love it. It was plug and play, as easy as it gets.

I have a Prodigy 2 and the proportional braking is the way to go. It brakes hard when you need it and not when you don't. The pig tail is easy to wire and I mounted low to the right of the steering column so I can easily reach it while driving.

I have an original Prodigy. It has worked great with both of my trailers and in the 4 different vehicles I've used it in. The selection of harnesses is very large and the controller is easily moved from vehicle to vehicle.

Add another for the P3. Took less than 10 min to install. The hard part is deciding where to put it.

thanks for the replies, once I install it does it have to remain there or can I put it in and out when I tow? The reason I'm asking is because I'm lifting my truck and redoing my interior for shows (1 of my show trucks) and I really don't want a brake controller showing

I have the Prodigy P2 in my Silverado. It is permanently mounted, but that means I have the supplied attachment bracket secured to the bottom of the dash with two screws. Not a quick disconnect installation, but I see no reason you couldn't remove the unit and bracket, unplug the wiring harness from the back of the controller, and head off to the show. Mine also came with an optional modular attachment box that allows the quick removal of the unit, but that leaves behind an even more unsightly empty gray plastic "thing."

@jdk, thanks for the info. I didn't know it came with a mod attachment. I'll most likely it in the upcoming months well before the first trip which is in March (can't wait, jonesing to get camping. )

You can unplug it and hide the cable. Maybe you could use some riv-nuts in the plastic so you can remove the bracket easily.

It's to bad GM doesn't sell the factory integrated unit... I think there would be a market for them.

While the others mentioned are good controllers I feel the Max Brake controller is the best on the market. We had 2 Tekonchas and a Jordan Ultra. We used the Jordan for 8 years. The Max Brake we've been using for over 3 years is just great. Diana
