Brake Controller advice

I'm in the market for a new controller. Have a Curt TriFlex and it is acting up. Disconnecting without warning and taking many tries to connect, even having to totally unplug unit to reset. Any way I'm torn between a couple units. Yes a Curt 51170 Spectrum (though my loyalty to Curt is questionable now), Tekonsha P3, and i would even consider a Redarc TowPro Elite. I like the idea of just a knob on dash and remote locating the unit. The most important is reliability, When the Curt disconnected and i was pushed thru a Stop sign I had enough (Down Hill and on a wet road the ABS kicked in). I have a 2015 GMC Canyon with tow pack and pulling a GreyWolf 17BH 4750 lbs LTG

Loved the P3 when I used it on my Escalade. Haven't used any of those other options.

I have had great luck with tekonsha controllers. I won't consider anything but tekonsha. I use the Prodigy P2 in every tow rig.

Agree with Dave.

When I bought my A-frame, dealer convinced me I didn't need to spend the money on a Tekonsha. Installed SOB. Finally got tired of the camper jerking me at slow-to-stops if I had the gain turned up enough to do any good at highway speeds, so I bought a Tekonsha P2. The only difference between a P2 and a P3 is the fancier display screen.

I love the smooth stops with the Tekonsha, yet I have it adjusted so it brakes pretty evenly at highway speeds - can just feel the gentlest of tugs from the camper, which tells me the camper brakes are working.

Tekonsha P3 for me. Used it for 5+ years and it worked great.

The P3 is all I've ever used and I have no desire to change that. They have an excellent video to aid in initial setup, once that's done you'll be plenty happy with it.

For me the p3 was okay but my buttons kept getting stuck. After reading reviews, it’s a common problems. I also found myself making adjustments all the time.

I switched to the Trucontrol brake control and it’s pretty much fully automatic with only the low speed needing minor adjustments now and then. The only occasion when I really need to adjust my slow speed stopping is when I go from toy hauler empty to fully loaded.

My son has used the Prodigy for 2 years now and loves it. It worked out great as his truck and mine were both in shop for service and I had a loaner that didn't have controller in it. He needed to move his trailer so I brought the loaner over, Just put the handheld in the counsel, plugged in the 12v adapter and away we went. It worked beautifully.

A little silcone spray fixed that problem.

As much as I loved my P3, the builtin controller in my new Ford F-150 blows it away.

I'm still using my 12-year old Prodigy P2. No issues ever.

I'm on season #17 with the same original Tekonsha Prodigy (now called the P2). If this think ever decides to die (doubtful, as there are no moving parts), I'll get the P2 or P3.
