Brake controller problems

Hello all. New to the forum here. I bought a 1997 f350 with a brake controller already installed. It is a draw tite activator ii and seems to be a piece of junk. I hooked up a u haul trailer today and when I plugged in the controller did not register the trailer so I could not set the level on the controller or use the manual brake activator. Plus having some lighting issue also. I have to move this thing from Albuquerque to Denver in the morning and wanted to know if there is a place that could put me in a new controller in a couple of hours or so. Does rv sales places do these or just hitches? Any help is much appreciated.

Does the uhaul have electric or surge brakes? Most uhaul trailers I have used have surge brakes, they do not need a brake controller.

Lighting issues (if you mean the rear lights on the trailer) would not be part of the controller but due to wiring or plug in the TV or the trailer wiring or plug.

Good question though not really sure. That would make sense though. A far as the lighting yes it is the rear of the trailer. All lights come on but only right side signal and brake lights come on.

Call the uhaul dealer to answer the brake question. Then use a voltmeter to troubleshoot the circuits to the connector. You can find the connector pin identification online using google and typing in the number of pins (7 or 4).
