Brake controller - warning and question
First the warning...Don't spill your morning cup of coffee over your brake controller. I did this earlier today and found out it is bad for them.
Parked and noticed the brake lights on, then noticed the brake controller light on. All while I had the keys in my pocket. Anyway ended up unhooking it and coming to the conclusion coffee had got down into it and well electronics and liquids don't play well together.
So, needing a new controller. See by some posts on here that the prodigy controllers are well thought of. Also mine, which was installed by the RV dealer, appeared to be a time delay controller, thinking a proportional controller would be better, thoughts??
thanks

A proportional BC is the way to go...I had a P3 that worked much better than the solid state one it replaced.

I'm a fan of the P3 as well. Much better than a time-delay. P2 or P3 is the way to go IMHO.

A RV repair tech. told me the time delay should only be used if towing animals. Upgraded to a P3 will not go back to a time delay controller.

I went from a time delayed controller (1 trip) to a P3 and won't be without one now.

Another vote for the P3:
Although mine looks a bit altered, it's all Tekonsha.
I did relocate the manual lever though:
It made this trip:
Without a problem. As you can see, it deals with up hill, downhill, high speed, low speed etc with ease.
It's a little more expensive than an older tech unit, but I highly recommend it.

For the OP - P2 stuffed into that otherwise useless little cubby designed into the early 4th gen Rams. No issues with this BC over the last year and 12K km.

P3 is a great controller. Dad had a P2 before his integrated in the Denali HD, but that was also a good controller. I like the diagnostics and info the display has on the P3 better, though.

Yup. I'm SAR. Comox to gander, 442sqn to 103sqn.
The P3 was hook it up, adjust it up and go. Worked great!

Have been running the same P3 in 2 different Ram trucks and never and issue in 6 years and 12k miles. Only thing is if it is in the truck unused for any time, every once in awhile it will be locked up when you hook up and it needs to be unplugged for a few seconds then rehooked and all is well. I also use it with my 18ft flat deck hauling water once a month and every spring abt 12 trips in a row to refill the pool as well and it adapts very easy to the different weight and trailer balance for braking.

Suspected that. You'll appreciate then that SAR techs are nuts and I mean that in a good way. If I was lost and/or broken in the sticks, they're the ones I'd want to have looking for me.
Cheers!
