Excellent! I've changed the standard lanyards on all of the trailers I have with these!

Yep, I use them and like it. You can find them at Tractor Supply, auto parts houses, and trailer parts dealers.

Interesting. What a great idea. My 2015 still uses a standard cable.

Be careful! Remember the cable must be short enough to pull the pin if the hitch
comes off the ball. This means it needs to be just slightly shorter than your chains.
I've always threaded my cable thru my WD hitch and that keeps it out of trouble.
It won't get pulled in a turn or drag the ground. If it was dragging the ground it would
be way longer than my chains which as mentioned is not good.

IF the cable is longer than the chains--
and the hitch comes off the ball
and the chains get tight
and the cable is not pulled because it is longer than chains
you wind up going down the road with your trailer dragging and the
emergency brakes will not be activated.
I want my pin to pull out so that monster back there is trying to stop
itself while I am trying not to mess my pants and stop the truck and
keep everything on the road!!

This takes up enough slack to keep it off the ground.

If cable is shorter than the chains it can (Sometimes) be pulled/activated during sharp turns! Youroo!! USA Flag!

If the coupler comes off the ball and safety chains are still attached, the 7 way will still be connected in most cases. Breakaways are if the trailer should become completely detached from TV?? I really could be wrong. I just don't think I want trailer brakes locked down when safety chains are still attached. Again I could be wrong!!

Shorter than the chains is the proper way so the chains trap & hold the tongue from hitting the ground, while the brakes are applied.

This has gotten into some interesting topics. Let me ask the question "What is the most common thing that happens when a trailer comes loose from the tow vehicle"? Has it ever happened to anyone here? Have you ever seen a TT on the side of the road after it came loose? Is it usually human error during hook up?

Breakaway cable
I have had it happen. Not with my TH but with a boat. My son hooked it up and it did not seat all the way on the ball. I do not have trailer brakes on my boat as it is a single axle trailer and only weighs about 4000 lbs. When it bounced off the chains extended tight, and then tugged the boat forward, then yo yoing until I can get stopped. The only damage was the tongue jack hand crank collided with my tailgate, so now my son has a nice reminder winking at him every time he hooks up. And then I go behind him and verify. It was scary and could not imagine a heavier trailer.

The old guy knows a thinger2. Ya really want to trap a failed hitch situation with chains and plug still intact.. and stainless steel cables are really the way to go over those springy plastic jobs.
It's a fail-safe that should be 'absolute'.

Well, those with the coiled cables just wasted money because they are totally useless if the trailer comes loose and hangs on the chains. They will never pull the emergency pin so what good are they?

I have always taken my cable and twisted it a few times so it sorta has a loop in it.
