Breakaway switch

I know that most trailers that have electric brakes have a brakeaway switch. Or some do.

I have a 21fbrs and i was dropping it off at storage. Not sure how far i had got, but a black plastic popped out of something and ended up hanging from a wire that was interlaced in the passenger side chain. I thing the tongue jack caught the wire and pulled it.

Anyway, i am not sure where it goes, but i put it back as in the picture. Is this the right place?

You may have to jerk it out and turn it 90°

The plunger should be inserted almost all the way (see pic) as Turbs pointed out. The problem you may have now, that if the plunger is not going back in all the way to separate the contacts...the breakaway switch is actually doing what it's supposed to do, and is drawing voltage from your battery and is energizing the trailer brakes. This is going to cause your battery to deplete and/or burn up the breakaway switch internally (which may have already happened being the reason you can't reinsert the plunger).......as well as possibly mess up your electric trailer brakes and/or their wiring from long term energization (which will go on until the battery drains).

I would advise to at least unhook your battery until you get this fixed.

Another switch is usually under $20.

As soon as I saw Turbs post, I drove to the storage area and jerked it out and put it back in the right way. So, THANKS!

Did I say Thank You?

Of course, this begs the question which the rookie can't answer... (That's me)... How is the other end of the cable supposed to be attached to the TV or is it?

Thank you,
Joe

Hook the looped end to the safety chain or use a carabiner and hook it to the bumper.

It really should be attached to the TV then. I don't think the guys that installed the hitch had it hooked to anything in particular for our 500 mile drive back from Indianapolis with the Camper. Not real sure as I disconnected from the camper in the dark.

Additionally, the chrome on the ball (of a new hitch) is pretty scratched up now. I suspect they needed to apply some lubricant and did not. The arms of the Weight Distributing portion are also skinned up and a little rusty looking now.

These were the same guys that prepped the coach for the road and for us to bring it home.

Use a carabineer to connect to the safety chain attach point on the TV. If your breakaway pin was out for a while you need to check the charge level on your battery.

It was probably disconnected for about an hour. Luckily.
