Update on truck, just my luck I put the Walmart DEF in tank on Friday and drive it first time on Saturday and check DEF comes on. Chevy says it's a sensor in the tank and tank has to be replaced. The truck that was bringing the part broke down, what a way to start DW retirement and first trip today

For those that use Peak DEF and don't know, here is the email on how you interpret the date code:
(The code used below was from a box that I bought from Sam's Club 2 weeks ago.)

Thank you for your email.

The product has a two year shelf life assuming it has been stored at 86 F or less. If it stored above 86 degrees, then it can be reduced down to six months.

Here is an example code that deciphers the batch code for diesel exhaust fluid.

Example Code |Method to Decipher
----------------------------+----------------------------------
PB160071555 |PB = LOCATION
|16 = Year + 1 (2015)
|007 = Days remaining in year
|(Reverse Julian Date) December
|25th
|1555 = Batch Code

The first two letters or numbers can change depending on blend facility but the codes all translate the same based off of ISO standards.

Regards,

Peak Tech Services

Thank you - I ask how to read the date code at a auto store and the sales guy got the manager. The manager look over the box and told me that it doesn't expire and last for ever since it is mostly water. To say the least I didn't buy it and never shopped at that store again.

So I guess my question is all Blue DEF created equal ? My New Ram 2500 with the Cummins is almost at the half way mark on it's first tank so I am going to be filling it soon. I would imagine the easiest thing to do is go to the truck stop and just pump it or am I missing anything ?
Other posters have said that they pay more 'at the pump'. However, based on comparing to the above prices, I just paid $1.75 a gallon 'at the pump' at a local gas station that has 3 truck lanes. So, apparently cheaper, and dang sure more convenient. I was about out, and paid a total of $9.53 to fill it up.

You're welcome! I don't know why they (and other companies) don't just use a real date, but they don't!
I don't blame you about never shopping there again. Thats a crazy answer!

Blue DEF date codes have changed in that they no longer start with the two-digit plant code. The new scheme is not found anywhere online that I could see.

Per a call to Old World Industries technical support line today, the first five digits are all you need:

22207 01249 CP7 7115

22 - 1 = 21 = year manufactured

365 - 207 = 158 = June 7 on the Julian calendar

So this product was manufactured 6/7/21 and is under one year old.

They reiterated there is no hard and fast rule about expiration because it all depends on storage temperature. The warmer it is, the shorter time it lasts. The colder it is, the longer it lasts. All within the specified storage temperature range which is -23F (5C) to 86F (30C).

"Storage" includes when it's in the engine of course.

Per their web site, freezing is OK. Both their storage container and DEF tanks are designed to allow expansion which is up to 7% in volume. DEF tanks have heaters to warm it up and make it ready for use.
