Buying Tow Dolly
I thought I would seek advice before purchasing. I have a Georgetown 335DS and I am wanting to dolly a vw beetle convertible automatic.
After reading on this and other forums
I think I am looking for one with surge disc brakes so I don't have to add a brake controller.
At first I was looking at one without brakes but since I am leaning the other way now.
Thoughts, suggestions or comments.

following. I'm leaning the same way for a Ford Fiesta or Focus. Yes, I know they can be towed 4 flat but I don't really want to spend $4000 on all that equipment and labor for 10 weekends a year.

Master Tow, dolly is light to move around by hand and has the swivel plate so you don't need to leave the car unlocked. Look for the 80hd series. About two grand New.

So no need to disconnect battery on a front wheel drive either? Just drive it on and secure in place and go?

Buying Tow Dolly
KJcachers--Yes. That's one of the pros. You drive on, secure it, and go, but the jury's still out on the overall tow dolly usefulness. We purchased one about six weeks ago, and took it on a 1500 mile trip, but I'm not sure yet if was right for us. We didn't want to spend the money for a 4 down towable car, and all the running gear you need, so it seemed sensible. It's quite a bit of work to hook/unhook each time(you need to get down on your knees and back each time), my body doesn't bend and move like it used to! Think about it, and good luck to you all.
adrinkard--ours has disc surge brakes, and work well.

Most of our trips are 2 night weekend stays so we may not even use it that much. Just want it for a couple longer road trips per year.

Also with a dolly you are going to save a ton of wear and tare on what ever you tow. The four downers don't seem to mention that when knocking dolly's. And as far as time to hook up or unload I do it in 8 minutes and I'm 70.

The big advantage of the dolly is you can tow almost anything without any special modifications.
The disadvantage is its less convenient to load/unload. i.e. we'll pull into a park at night and are tired, and would like to maybe run into town and get something to eat. Nah, I'm to tired to mess with unloading the dolly. However, if I'm four down, maybe.
I own an Acme dolly, its a sweet little dolly

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

This is what we purchased with electric brakes. Took it this past summer from Virginia to Texas then to Wyoming and back to Virginia without a problem. We are both 64 years old.

Just north of Dayton OH, 5 minutes from the I-70 & I-75 interchange.
