California Emission Tests

Ah yes Cali. Had to have smog check on my 2500HD (diesel) Took it in and they looked around looked underneath stepped on the accelerator 2x and said ok your done. I say your not going to put it on the dyno a do a emission test? He said no it's a diesel. Then why do I have to have a smog check? I hate California

No smog check where we live either. I got smoked a few times on no muffler and no cat converter, due to the fact they actually looked under the truck and said, you gotta have something. So, from then on, I installed dummy cats and mufflers. All look, no function with 4" pipe running straight though a shell. This new high tech crap I got now, I just left alone. I miss the old ones now.

The dummied one was a 2003, then a 2007. The one in the signature, 2013, I haven't done anything to. Too much junk on it.

I don't know much about California, besides it seems like everything in that state has been known to cause something in lab rats, so the labels say. I find it odd they didn't check a diesel. Why step on the accelerator? Checking to see how much black smoke would come out? Of course, anybody that gives me a sticker and volunteers not to check stuff, is ok by me.

enerally, you need to get the test every 2 years, once your vehicle is 7 years old. Larger vehicles (called ‘heavy-duty’ vehicles) require the test every year, once they are 7 years old.

The Ministry of Transportation will notify you when your vehicle needs an emissions test, when you receive your registration renewal documents (either online or in the mail).

So you see annually for HD like 1 ton diesels.

I had a GMC Safari that was 12 years old and never did close to a pass. Put 94 octane in the tank, did oil change with 40 weight and drove it around at 65 for half hour before testing.

Passed every time. Funny thing the local lube place suggested it before they tested the 4.3 l chev engines.

They don't check diesels in Texas, even the new ones. I am told that they will not pass. I have a 2011 F250 and with the DEF there is no smell or black smoke and they run almost like a gasser as for the noise. It cost $14.50 to inspect as opposed to $39.50 for the gas.
