Calling all 6.4 hemi owners

I'd like to see a post of what all the 6.4 hemi owners are towing! Also, if you would post some details about the truck (gears, fuel mileage while towing and impressions...)

Mine is below, it is a 2015 crew cab 2500 big horn with 3.73 gears.

I have yet to tow my camper very far, only a 40 mile round trip to our local lake, constant rolling hills. The truck did okay, only averaged 7.5 mpg but this trip also has 4 different stops on the highway, so much of the trip is getting back up to speed.

I have the same model as you do except it's a 2014. I pull a 31' Cougar and average about 10 MPG while towing.

MPG's will be all over the place. Everyone tows a different trailer on different roads under different conditions. The guy towing in TX or FL will get way better mpg than the guy towing in CO or OR.

That is exactly my point though... i'd like to see what all everyone is towing and what everyones experience is with their setup in their locations... I know a lot of people looking to buy a 6.4 hemi but there are little to no threads of this nature...

As a perspective 6.4 buyer.....empty MPG would be nice to hear from others as well.

Gotcha. Then it would help if the owners replied as to where they tow. Makes a big difference.

I have a 2015 crew cab with the 6.4 and 3.73 2 wd. I have been averaging around 14 mpg city/hwy combined.

I tow a Vengeance 31v. Its 37 foot overall and a gross weight of 10K. I am around 9.5K loaded. I average 9 mpg mixed interstate and farm to market roads speeds near 65 mph

I am beginning to wish I would have got the 4.10 rearend

I have a 2014 2500 Ram Laramie 6.4 Hemi. We are towing a 2015 Heritage Glen 356QBQ 5th wheel. Loaded it is 12.5K lbs. Truck tows it without any effort. I do however have 4.10 gears which makes all the difference. Getting 9-10 mpg. No effort to get up to speed. Anyone looking to tow, really needs to have 4.10 gears. 4.10 gears also give you 15.5K of towing.

before you laugh, we bought the truck we will need not the one we need now. We are towing a 2014/15 Microlite 2109s with our 6.4 Trademan CrewCab 4x4 with 3.73. We have made 2 small trips and haven't really tracked our mileage that well. We have a big trip to RMNP from St Louis in a month and we will be tracking it then.

Impressions, well, its a big truck and doesn't know our trailer is back there. Love the integrated Brake control (and Sway control supposedly). I have plenty of power if I need it. It will pass anything but a gas station. If the 4.10 rear end would make a difference in the Gas mileage, it might be worthwhile

If you are buying one get the back up camera. Its easier to back in with the camera than to pull into spaces.

Its tall, DW has a step stool if she needs in the bed of the truck. The side steps are a necessity.

We love the truck though.

I always thought people that ride mopeds or drive Smart cars got asked what your MPG? Owners of the 6.4 Hemi Rams usually get asked, what the horsepower on that Hemi, 0 to 60 in how many seconds, what's the towing rating so on so forth.. but here goes...
When I'm running empty on the highway 75 to 80 my mpg is running 14 to 15, but if I drive 55 mph with the cruise (four of the eight cylinders get automatically shut down) my dash MPG reading is 22 to 24 mpg. It has 2 trip meters, one of them I have never reset, it shows the average MPG 14.2 since I've owned it, so it does burn the fuel. When pulling the Windjammer the best was 11 mpg and worse 9 mpg

14 Ram 2500 CC Long bed 4x4 w 3:73s/ 14 CC Silverback 29RE

I am getting 13-15 mpg running 75-80 mph empty on the highway, 11-12 around town and 6-9 towing 68-72 mph.

I haven't scaled it but I am probably towing about 14k.

I love the truck. I came from a diesel and I don't miss it. Plenty of power. I added firestone airbags with a compressor and in cab gage.

I wish I had 4:10s not because of power. My sweet spot power curve appears to be about 69-72mph where it just runs good. I'd love to drop it to 62-65 mph to pick up a gallon and keep my tires cooler.

I run mostly in the Texas Hill Country.

Going from 3.73's to 4.10's will improving towing somewhat, but mileage will decrease. If you want Mileage the Cummins is the way to go, or if you are pulling anything big. Pulling these big 5th wheels with even the 6.4 Cummins is okay for short trips or if you do not encounter many long climbs, but there is a big difference between climbing a 6% Grade for 5 Miles with a 800 Ft Lb Cummins and any Gasser. The Hemi is awesome, Had a 5.7 in my 2011 1500 Crew Cab and hauled lots of Horses to Horse shows in it, but there is a big difference and you do not not need the lower Gear Ratios to get the job done effortlessly. My 2011 Ram 2500 HO Cummins did it well with 3.73's but my 2014 pulls the same 42ft 356QBQ with 3.42's and gets better mileage doing it.
