Can this be safe??

On our way home from the Amana rally we are in a cg in Kansas. Talked with a man today that said a friend of his pulls a 30 foot TT with a 2015 Ford 150 with Eco boost. Can you do this and be safe and is this prudent??
I ask this as I have never pulled anything bigger than a utility trailer behind a pickup.

Its as safe as the guy who set it up and is driveing it as long as its not over gross.

Not being a wise ass, but Boy Howdy ... look over at the opposite lane on the highway ... there are bunches of us pulling RV's with pickups. There are lotsa ultralights in the 30' range legally towable with 1/2 ton pickups.

It is probably safe as any...... As long as the trailer weight is under the capacities of the truck. A 30 foot trailer does not sound unreasonable for a F150 Eco boost.

That's what I wanted to know. Don't know much about pickups any more. Have never owned a TT and last pickup was back in 1976.

A thirty footer isn't that big really. Many are pulling 34' & 35' tts with half tons. Depends on trailer weight, hitch weight, truck and engine capacities, which all vary greatly.

Last week I was camping across from a family and I struck up a conversation. He was pulling a fairly long New Salem TT with superslide. I asked if the f-150 ecoboost crew cab had the hd tow package. He did not know. I asked what the trailer dry weight was and he asked how can you tell? I showed him the yellow tag on the door. 8275 lbs dry. I remember my first experience looking at used TT's at Lazy Days and before the salesman even showed me any RVs, He wanted to know what I planned to pull it with. He punched my truck specs into the computer and told me what would be safe to pull. Sometimes I see trucks speeding along the interstates and it reminds me of the trucks in the movie "The Grapes of Wrath".

As you can see, I have a Ford F-150 ecoboost. BUT....it also has the HD trailer tow package. The 5th. wheel is 32'. I keep a sharp eye on anything and everything that is loaded in the trailer being careful not to over load which is easy to do.
Never travel faster than 65 MPH as most trailer tires are rated at 65 MPH top speed.

Go to the Ford site, look up the truck year and get the towing specs, then buy a TT that will not exceed the truck's capacity. ford.com/towingguides

Sounds like you got one of the few salesmen that actually cared about weight limits, etc.

I would say no, not really. The ford people lie to sell trucks. Any thing over 25' should uses 3/4. A good cross wind will put a 5,500 lbs truck in a ditch or on its side. Truck should weight at least 75% of the weight of the camper

The dealership I bought from does the same thing. As soon as they find out you want a TT or fiver they ask about your vehicle. Good experience for sure

We have an F150 Ecoboost. Towing capacity, 11,900 lbs, 5th wheel capacity, 10,500 lbs, carrying capacity, 2,650 lbs. We have a 32' Rockwood. Dry weight, 7,900 lbs, loaded, 9,200 lbs. Pin, 1,180 lbs. These are not salespeople telling me this but are on the F150 and Rockwood. We feel that we are not towing at the margin but well within the truck's capacity. We know that the 3/4 and 1 tonners will say that bigger is better and we will probably go bigger if we buy a bigger 5th wheel but for now this truck pulls and handles without any problems.

And anything over 30' should have a Mack, Peterbilt or Kenworth.

you can pull anything you want but how do you stop it

As I said, the truck pulls and handles without any problems and that includes braking and stopping. I do not drive over 60 mph, leave the appropriate distance between vehicles for safe stopping and also have brakes on the trailer.

Hmmm. Not saying you are wrong...my truck dry is app. 6500 as I remember. The gross is 10k. The total max is 23k as I remember. My trailer grosses app 11.5k

It is a 3/4 4x4 diesel 4:10 geared

Yep. See our rig below. The newer 2015 Ecobeast F150s can tow up to 11,800 LBS!
