Can this price be right?

My trailer original tires are
Provider ST225/75R15
Load range D Speed rating M

I'm very happy with them but they are going on 5 years old with 20K miles on them. They look OK as far as no visible sidewall cracks, lumps etc. Tread is still OK.
But they are getting up there age wise.
So I'm looking online and

Wally World has them for UNDER 50 bucks!!
What???
E-Trailer and Amazon both list them in the $120 range.
I thought it must be a mistake so I put 4 in my shopping cart and it's ready to ship!
Should I push the button?

If you need tires, buy them. However, be CERTAIN they are exactly the same tires you are comparing elsewhere, with no small print exception. My thoughts, anyway.

I looked them up on Wally World's site and yes $48.45 each.

If you are comfortable with them, push the button!

eBay has them for $58.68.

Just goes to show you the mark up at eTrailer and the like!

Another thought on this.... the cheaper tires may be available because they've been sitting in a warehouse for 2 or 3 years and are discounted because they are rotated out for newer stock. Since we rarely keep trailer tires on for the full engineered life, that wouldn't likely be a problem. 5Picker's comment about Ebay made me think of older stock rotation.

The cheapest tires can wind up being the most expensive ones. I'd have a hard time enjoying my drive knowing I hade cheap "Made in China" tires on my trailer. That's why I have "Made in America" Goodyear Endurance tires on my trailer. When I towed my trailer back to Alaska, tires were one thing I didn't worry about.

I called Taskmaster components who distribute these tires. They checked the WalMart site and said "yes, these are our premium tires". They were amazed at the price. I just ordered them.

As mentioned I have these exact tires on my rig. They are a good looking tire. Automotive all season type tread.
After going on 5 years I have ZERO dry cracks anywhere on the side walls or between tread rows. After 20K miles they have half tread left.
They are speed rated to 87 MPH.
They are load rated 2550 LBS per tire.
That's north of 10,000 lbs total.
My rig weighs right at 6,000 axle weight loaded ready to go camping.
That gives me a significant safety cushion in speed and weight.
I'm a happy repeat customer.

Order them up! If they're not up to your expectations when they arrive, Walmart has a generous return policy. I would have them "ship to store", though. That way you get to inspect them BEFORE you take possession of them.

Check the manufacturer date when they arrive. My Goodyear tires I bought last month were manufactured 2 months earlier and all 5 tires matched.

sometimes the price is the least of your worries. sometimes the durability is reflected in the price.
I had always stayed away from China Bombs... and there are several types. look into Maxis 8008's or Good years if you want to protect your investment.
we had the guy beside us tear up his trailer on Friday when he blew a Westlake all to crap.

All Goodyears are Not USA made. They manf many Goodyear for US export in China.
Goodyear rides a tall pony letting people believe their company puts out US made tires... some of their tires are!

You are totally ignoring what I've written twice.... I've already proved the durability.
I HAVE these tires. They have held up wonderfully for ~5 years and over 20K miles. They are priced at $120 each in other places.
WalMart just has them really low priced for some reason. I'm gonna guess it's a mistake.
LOTS of folks here on FRF have China tires with no issues.
I'm gonna slap on a new set and go again!

no doubt that's sort of why I suggested to look around. 45 $ tires are just that 45$. you pay for what you get!

I could have paid $120 each on Amazon or E-trailer. I choose to pay $48 at Wally World.

Unless you have a friend to mount and balance them, be prepared to add 20 bucks per tire at the local tire shop. The was an unexpected add to the great deal I got at Amazon.

Yes I'm aware. Walmart charges $15 pre wheel plus 2 disposal fee. Lowest price around me.

My 2015 Wildcat 5th came with E rated Provider tires and they have proven to be an excellent, well made tire. They are spec'd as stock tires on many heavy duty trailers

Provider ST Radial - Taskmaster

I just replaced them by ordering on Walmart and they arrived quickly, free shipping and half the cost of other sites and local tire shops. All were within 60 days of manufacture and all from same batch.

Dan - once you get/see your tires, can you post up the manufacturing date? Just curious if they are older stock as some have mentioned. BTW, that's a he!! of good price!

I've bought several trailer tires from Walmart.com. Make sure the date code is recent, or don't accept them. My last tires, the same tires from a local shop were double the price.

I've been using Carlisles (I forget the model right now). I got over 40,000 miles out of the first set, retired them at the five year old point. They still looked great, but we were heading to AK so I preferred having new tires.

No, you don't always get what you pay for. Thats a myth. Had I paid twice as much for the same exact tire, would it had been a better tire?

The tires I have bought at Walmart.com were all a month old or less.

Goodyear Endurance tires are made in the USA. The older Goodyear Marathon tires were made in China and there were a lot of problems with them. You can easily verify where a tire was made by checking the code on the sidewall. I did and confirmed my Goodyear Endurance tires were made in the USA.

No - clearly it would have been the same tire.

Wouldn't someone paying 2 x the price for the identical product be a fools errand? Personally I don't know of anyone would ever do that knowingly.

I work for my heavily taxed dollars like the majority of people and always shop for price point AND Quality.

Example: I purchased a new Flex Air Trail Air 5th wheel pin box out of the USA 2 years ago for $1200 Canadian.
Several places offered to price match the location I purchased from.

the EXACT same unit in Canada was $2300 plus 15% sales tax in NB.

the video link I posted showed the difference between a higher grade tire and a China bomb sidewalls for durability

and yes products price is not always the best indicator of reliability.

However I've witnessed the devastation caused by Chinese made titres on $20,000 to $120,000 travel trailers several times due to poor quality.

I've also been a victim of tire blow out within 2000 miles of them being installed.

Although buying NA made products is not a guarantee of reliability having seen and heard the damage stories hundreds of people have reported here in FR Forums as well as other sites I am less willing to part with my monies on them.

for those who love them and have had no damages from a tire blow out - here's to keeping the air in the tires inside the tires and safe travels.
