Carrying extra lp tank

My rig is a Lexington B+ . For a long stay I have been carrying a extra 30 Lb. LP tank. I was towing a pickup but have since have gone to a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I'm thinking of carrying the extra 20 or 30 lb. on a cargo carrier mounted on the receiver hitch of Jeep. What is the laws on this. Better to be out there, then inside the Jeep.

due to a a shortage of tongue weight capacity I was looking for laws on this concerning carrying one on the rear rack and I found nothing. I have seen one bumper puller with a tank inside a milk crate on the rear but it was passing and I could not confirm if it was empty or full.
You have seen jerry cans of gas on the backs on jeeps right? should there be any difference? They both can ruin a day if hit.
I too will keep looking and be watching this thread.
