Yes..and? I always use a breaker bar for the tear down and a torque wrench for the tighten up.

well that way might not be best . as the new 20 v impact will bust a lug right off ,350flbs best to snug em up and since you'll be doing it by hand may as well use a torque wrench

Thanks everyone for the responses.

I think I'll try my 1/2" or a 3/4" breaker bar & socket with a cheater bar (haven't carried one of those in a while). And make sure the lugs are torqued properly not slammed on by the garage.

I'll let you know after the new year if I break all 56 lugs!

Well I use a 1/2" break over bar then a 1/2" torque wrench to set the lugs myself. I also carry a 12 ton bottle Jack. Hope to never use any of them on the road side to change a flat but you never know with all the China tires now days. I also carry a road side emergency kit with triangles and the likes. Some states also require it for RVs I've read but don't know for sure. It can't hurt to have the road kit.

Looks like there is two models and one labeled the "Plus" is made for RVs with extended space between the wheels. Mine doesn't but I still order the Plus anyway since it was on sale for 35.00 on Amazon and with prime free shipping.

Stupid question: I'm assuming driving one wheel up on a ramp/spacer will work with the Dexter axles? Not sure how high up you'd have to go.

Thx

Breaker bar and torque wrench. No need for a zebra hunt and good ole hand tools rarely let you down. Keep the lugs tightened to spec to avoid bursting a blood vessel breakin em loose.

Hello Gypsie,

I know you asked about how to get a wheel off/on, and get back on the road quickly. While some tire failures will require this, in my years towing a trailer, puncture related flats have been the only type of tire problem I have encountered (knock on wood now that I have cursed myself).
A good "string plug" type tire patch kit and 12V air compressor have saved my bacon many times. Even in the worst cases this has allowed me to get to a facility where the proper repairs can be made.

That would be the first thing I would try.

Only if the tire is destroyed, would the spare come out.

You might be right... I guess I shouldn't assume it will work but try it before I really need it.

Go with a rigid battery powered 18v impact gun. I have one and love it. Have used it to change tires on my truck and array it when we go camping. I use it to put stabilizers down quickly with ease and know that I have enough power to change a tire if needed.

What is the correct torque for the trailer tires? I have a 26DBH. Dealer said 110ft/lbs but I was not too impressed with them so I figure I would ask here.

Mine said 110 on the sticker (steel rims) . I think 90 to 120 for steel is allowed.

24" break-over bar and appropriate socket. Step on the end of the bar. Even my 95# daughter could break loose just about any lug nut that way. She had to change a tire when she was 16 before I'd let her drive on her own... The rest is a matter of preference.

95# at the end of a 24" breaker would be close to 200 lb/ft which is a little much for a 1/2" stud. Best to use a torque wrench to be sure.

Being that I have aftermarket rims on my truck the lug wrench that came with won't work so I carry a 24" breaker bar under the back seat with the correct sockets for both the truck and the camper. In the camper I carry a 4 ton bottle jack and also a 1/2" Dewalt drill and bought 1/2" adapter. I have never had a flat on the road, knock on wood, but friends had one at the CG once. I just broke the lugs loose with the breaker bar, put the socket on the drill and backed them off, put the spare tire on then ran the lugs tight with the drill, then snugged them up with the breaker bar. Granted the lugs were not torqued correctly, but they were plenty good to get 60 miles home.

2' cheater on the end of a ratchet. Use a bottle jack to lift the tire. I can come very close on torque without a torque wrench. I don't trust the impact wrench, I'd rather use brute force method. Already got too many battery operated gadgets to keep charged.
