figure it however you want. Most people get a 25-50% increase in fuel economy with diesel vs gas. I went from 7 to 11.5 myself. My fuel cost per mile is 40 cents less with diesel. Maybe it's not for everyone, but it has it's advantages.

Ok at your figure .40 per mile that's 50,000 miles or almost 8 years of fuel.

since the diesel option is around 8k, not the 20k you stated, you can easily earn the premium back 10-15 times in the life of the vehicle in fuel savings. Don't convince yourself that all diesels are nearly $70,000 dollars. New 1 tons can be bought for 50k, and I'm not talking stripped models. Plenty of people pay that much for Ecoboost F150s, just to get half the mileage of my 1 ton diesel.

My diesel was 3500 more than the same gaser on the lot.. No brainer for me. I do not think I'll ever want to go back.

Don't forget the resale value for used diesels too. IF you can find one!
