Some of those diesel MPGs mentioned earlier might be as well.
I know the factory isn't going to knowingly put in an error that makes
them look BAD!! If there is any error it's gonna be on the plus side.

It doesn't matter to me. 99.9% of my truck driving is with a trailer on
the back. I know some guys have to drive their trucks on a daily basis.
Unloaded MPG is important to them.
I am only concerned with loaded MPG and the reports here don't sound very
hopeful for me to get much improvement.
Ill give you my towing mpg with my sabre 5er in about two weeks.

What weight?
I towed my 4200 LB trailer 2000 miles with a late 07 duramax diesel and
got 10.5

I have towed the exact same trailer on the exact same route before and
got 9.5 with my gasser-- see my signature for details.

Many posting to this thread lead me to believe I can not expect much better
with the diesel.

I began this quest hoping a diesel would save me a little on fuel costs.
Looks like the main or only advantage to diesel over gas -- for me
at least-- is the honking huge increase in torque of a diesel.

Bottom line looks to me-- stay with my current rig and be happy.
OR keep the diesel and look for a used 5er in the 28 foot range but don't expect
to save any on fuel cost if I do that.

At the present time I have 2 trucks sitting in my driveway.
One of them has to go some time this summer......

But on the other hand. My NON-Loaded MPGS are way better than my same model year gasser with 6.0l. With the 6.0L unloaded I was getting like 13mpg-15mpgs. With my diesel I get better gas mileage and better torque loaded and unloaded. Its a no brainer. The only negative right now is the price of diesel though. Kind of offsets it if you ask me though lol

DPF's killed mileage plain and simple, I have lots of friends and family with diesels and all of them have said how bad the mileage is with their new trucks vs. their older trucks.

A friend that we camp with has a 29ft TT (he said it weights 8000lbs) that he tows with a 2009 2500HD CC, SB 4X4 Duramax in stock form he said it got 9.5 up to 11 mpg. Last spring he had it tuned via a EFI Live, and installed an exhaust and intake system. He now said that he is seeing 20 mpg empty and 13-14 mpg towing.

...and causing pollution. Have you seen the pictures of air quality in cities in China lately? No thanks!

....and not because people over there are driving Ford/Dodge/GM diesel trucks with engine modifications!

Personally haven't seen the skys in China, but lots of pictures since my wife has spent more that 7 weeks in China since last June for work. But smog and air quality over there is caused by ALOT more that just some diesel exhaust from the very limited numbers of modified trucks in the world, but thats a totally different subject....

I didn't say that deleting the DPF was a good thing, only said that with custom tunes deleting the DPF would gain a noticeable gain in mileage. Me personally I wouldn't mess with all the emissons BS, thus the reason that I have been looking for either a 99-03 7.3L Ford or 03-06 5.9L Dodge. No emissions to deal with, good-great mileage, and proven reliable. If I don't find exactly what I want, I will keep my gasser.

But to the OP, the mileage is what the new trucks are getting. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Well it looks like I'm right in line with everyone else. Empty 18.6 is the best I've seen. Towing with GCW of 17960 lbs I get between 10.4 to 12.4 mpg. You will never save money on fuel, but it sure is nice to hit a large hill and not kick cruise off.

I got 8.0 mpg with a f150 5.4 ltr and a 6800 lb tt.

Just got back from a short 460 mile trip. I have a 2004.5 2500hd with the lily. I got 10 mpg pulling 14000lbs Cedar Creek doing 62 mph going up and down the relatively small hills between Houston and Dallas. On flat land flat land like heading east out of Houston its closer to a 11 or so. I have only added a new mouth piece and put on a different muffler and removed the particle separator.
