Chevy kodiak

Anybody use one, what do i need to watch out for? Pros/cons? We have a 43' sierra 380bh5, and although it's not excessively heavy, it's big and after a side wind scare last weekend with our srw duramax, i was looking at drw 3500 and started looking at kodiaks, and i like the idea, just not sure about 5r with a pickup box, I'll be using b&w companion. Maybe a western hauler bed? How about 4wd? Are they too tall with bed to pull 5r? So many questions

Well, any Kodiak is going to be at least now almost 7 model years old as GMC discontinued all medium trucks in Jul 2009. Consequently, that may make parts support an issue. That said, from what I've read on the internet, yeah I know, most owners tended to like them after spending $$$$ on suspension tweaks. I don't recall exactly what those mods were. If that style truck interests you, you might check out International TerraStar.

I understand being older, but there are some low mileage ones out there and there will be parts for the engine/driveline so not to worried about that. I just am more interested in using a4500 instead of a new 3500. Another plus is i have been making 1-2 hotshot runs a week of 10k-18k lbs.

Go with the 1 ton dually duramax. Can't go wrong with it. Will handle the 18 k easily. Later RJD

If you plan to drive it daily you have to be ok with it being a rough ride unloaded. Otherwise there are a fair amount of folks hauling jeeps, 5th wheels etc with them that love them. If you are pulling near the 18k mark more and more you will like it over a 3500 DRW.

What about 5th wheel options? I talked to b&w, but they said they don't make a specific under-bed mount for kodiak, yet i see b&w hitches in kodiaks fir sale. I would like to stay with my companion fifth wheel hitch

Since they do indeed make a hitch for that application, I think I'd ask them what's so different about a Kodiak frame vs D4500/5500, F450/550 and TerraStar? The beds are all after market and pretty much the same. In fact, CM Truck Beds offers the B&W receiver built in.

So i looked at your links, so you are aware, I'm looking at kodiaks with Monroe box, nit a flat bed or western hauler type bed
