Chevy Sunseeker 2500TS 5000lb tow limit

What can be done to increase the tow capacity of this vehicle. Gross vehicle is plenty high enough, but it has a 5000 lb tow limit. I am assuming it is the hitch. The same ford unit has a 7500 limit. Different hitch or is there another reason my unit has the 5000lb limit. Thanks

GCWR is plenty high for this vehicle. I would have to purposely try to exceed it. It is on the Chevy 4500 platform. One of the smaller MH on this chassis. Motor is stout enough. Allison transmission. Is it rear chassis extension strength. What is the difference between the equivalent Ford model that has 7500 lb tow limit?

mars man hit the nail on the head, the Chevy chassis weighs more then the ford, so you lose that weight for towing.

Cargo and towing is almost 9000 LBS. Guess I need a higher rated hitch

The chevy chassis does not weigh 2500 lbs more . though i agree you get a better more solid built chassis with chevy

I have a 2013 Sunseeker 2300 on a Chevy G4500 chassis. Also would note that it is almost impossible to exceed the GCWR (19200). Would assume it is the hitch limit, but also likely the Chevy frame wouldn't like more than 500# load on hitch. I heard that the Ford 4500 has a slightly heavier frame, and thus could handle a little more hitch weight. Also would note, transmission is NOT an Allison. Even the Chevy G4500 van diesel does NOT have the Allison. ONLY THE diesel PU TRUCKS have the Allison!
