I do know there is a BIG difference between my 2008 2500HD and the 3500HD. While the engine, trans, and rear end ratio are the same (thus the tow rating is the same), the frame is completely different.

My 2500HD has a C frame and the 3500HD has a box frame which results in the very different GVWRs.
Pulled you in hook line and sinker...... again!

I just checked some random parts off my GMC 2500HD and compared them to the 3500HD.

Front hubs:
2500 - Timken TMSP580312
3500 - Timken TMSP580313

result - Front axle - different

Rear Axle

Brake Rotor
2500 - 1JA097011
3500 - 1JA097031

rear bearings

2500 - Timken Set38
3500 & 4500 - Timken NP145100

result - Rear axle different

Failed the "load of hooie" check.

Along time ago I had a 1977 Ford Heavy Duty Half and a Friend had a 1977 Ford F250 Camper Special while his had the floating rear axels and Eight Bolt pattern and mine had the 5 on 5 Bolt pattern the Gvwr on his was 6100 lbs and my 1/2 was 6050 we also checked frame size and mine was alot heaver approx 10" c-rail to his 5" C-rail I think it still has to do with the way the put these trucks together from the Factory.

According to my NAPA pro link:

2008 GMC Sierra 2500 HD with 10.5" ring gear in rear axle:

Differential Seal & Bearing Kit - Rear Axle
Product Line: NAPA Bearings
Comments: w/ 10.50" Ring Gear;Include Bearing Kit Plus Ring Gear Bolts /Pinion shims/Carrier Shims
Per Car Qty.: 1
Select To Compare BRG SDK325BMK

Same truck with 11.5 ring gear:

Differential Seal & Bearing Kit - Rear Axle
Product Line: NAPA Bearings
Comments: w/ 11.50" Ring Gear;Include Bearing Kit Plus Ring Gear Bolts /Pinion shims/Carrier Shims
Per Car Qty.: 1
Select To Compare BRG SDK327MK

2008 GMC 3500 HD with 10.5" ring gear:

Differential Seal & Bearing Kit - Rear Axle
Product Line: NAPA Bearings
Comments: w/ 10.50" Ring Gear;Include Bearing Kit Plus Ring Gear Bolts /Pinion shims/Carrier Shims
Per Car Qty.: 1
Select To Compare BRG SDK325BMK

Same truck with 11.5 ring gear:

Differential Seal & Bearing Kit - Rear Axle
Product Line: NAPA Bearings
Comments: w/ 11.50" Ring Gear;Include Bearing Kit Plus Ring Gear Bolts /Pinion shims/Carrier Shims
Per Car Qty.: 1
Select To Compare BRG SDK327MK

Now the 2500 did come with a 9.5" gear also and the 3500 didn't so if you have the 9.5" gear then yes that is different.

If your truck has the 10.5 or 11.5 then it is the exact same gears, bearings, and seals. I'm not sure if Gm made a SRW 3500 or not because the Napa parts is not listing the two different options on the bearing and seal kit.

Brake Rotor Only - Rear - Premium

Gary,

I am not sure what all that means. I am no motorhead for sure.
However, there seems to be significant differences between the 3500 SRW and the 2500 SRW (the 3500 Dualie is even more different).

A lot of figuring goes into the GVWR of a truck and the least common denominator sets the bar. I believe it is the frame and brake drum /rotor size in the 2008 2500 vs 3500, but there could be others.

This is the NAPA part # for the rear rotors on your truck and also the 3500HD SRW.(NB 4886828) Same rotors. I just looked up the front ball joints , upper and lower control arm........all the same between your truck and a SRW 3500.
