Towing
I like to keep it between 55 and 65 depending if I am on 2 lane or 4 lane. I usually stay in the right hand lane and let the big rigs pass me by. We are both in our 70s and in no hurry.

65mph. I'll let it drift up to 70 downhill, and let it slow down a bit uphill (attempts at keeping torque convertor locked, and avoid downshifting). On the occasion that I want to pass a slow mover then get out of the way ASAP, I've been up to 75-ish. Nothing unstable at that speed, but I never sustain that.

55-65 depending on condition.
Whether towing my Mh/trailer, MH/toad or truck/trailer.
Mp white knuckles here. Life and fun trips are too short.
I save the speed for ripping across the dez.

usually cruise at 70, with occasional gusts slightly above when circumstances permit.

55 to 65, never more than 65 unless going downhill then just a bit over until the road levels out.

Tow Speed
If yours is 4WD, we have the exact same truck. California legal tow speed is 55 mph, which few people follow. I, though. am quite comfortable anywhere from 50 to 60 mph. Mileage with my 32' Wildwood runs from 10 to 12 mpg, depending on whether its flat or mountainous. Personally, I've had blowouts and wheel bearing problems on trailers, and don't want to experience a problem at higher speeds.

I have a 29' flagstaff that is a little heavier than you are and I tow with a 1/2 ton Chevy. 65 is a good speed. Anything over that and I feel like it wants to sway a little. Fuel mileage is between 8 and 10 depending on terrain.

I've got a nearly identical truck; 2013 F150 5.0 liter Lariat 4X4 supercrew 5.5' bed. Not sure how yours is set up, but mine came with the tow package. So the electric brake controls are integral to the dash and the transmission includes a tow haul profile.
My trailer is a PrimeTime Lacross 238RES so I'm significantly heavier than you. I dial gain in @ 7.0 and use load leveling bars and an anti-sway bar. Tows like a dream, and I'm good at 55-65. My MPG doesn't change that much between towing and not towing.
Every day MPG averages in the high 17's to 18's, and towing I still stay in the 16's. My only bitch is that the stock mirrors are too narrow for good rear vision, but I corrected that with a slide-on set from Amazon.

Never heard of a 5.0L gas engine only getting 1 mpg less when having a significant size trailer being towed. I am so certain that isn't the fact.....gonna have to prove that one to me. Anyone with a 5.0 L ford, please chime in.....if that is the case and is correct at 16 mpg towing I am going to buy one right away!

I drive a gas powered Georgetown towing Ford Focus. Best speed for fuel is around 55-58. But I set my cruise between 60 and 65 and still get 7. 55 I get around 7.5. At 60 or 65 still can't compete with cars. But it seems keeps pretty traffic flow with 18 wheelers.

5-7 MPH over the speed limit wherever I am. So Montana 85-87 MPH etc. I have been towing a long time know my over sized brakes will stop it in any situation just as if I was not pulling 5k+ I am reserved in heavy traffic but have had elk, deer & moose jump out with no issues. Tow/Haul mode & electric brakes. However that being said I have on more than one occasion forgot to engage tow haul/electric brakes after re-fuel and I can still stop her.

I am pulling a 2006 21 ft FR Surveyor TT with a 2016 Kia Sorento V6 AWD with a 5000 lbs tow package. My trailer weighs aprox. 4200 lbs loaded. I realize my scenario is way less vehicle and way less trailer, but just to give you the whole spectrum.
I get about 11-12 mpg pulling trailer on relatively flat roads and about 22-24 mpg with no trailer. With no trailer my speed is 65 mph and with trailer it is 60 mph.
I raised a few eyebrows when I told my friends what I would be pulling with my Kia, but by pure luck my trailer came with Equalizer Hitch with sway bars and weight distribution that was rated to pull up to 10,000 lbs. and I believe that is the reason I have never experienced any sway (even up to 70 mph..one time for about a mile)
This is one of the more interesting posts I have read for some time...thanks VELORANDY

My Georgetown likes 60-65 and the worst gas mileage was 6.9 best 9.7, but I am curious about all of the speed demons not commenting. It seems that I am always being passed by a TT going superfast.

Although 88 MPH would be optimal, producing the 1.21 GigaWatts to operate the Flux Capacitor has been troublesome, keeps popping the circuit breaker on the power inverter.
In town ... just do what it takes to get from one stoplight to the next. Everyone else is in a hurry to get to the next red light first, and occasionally they get frustrated and speed past us to prove they are brighter and shinier. From time to time they receive special awards for their high performance driving demonstrations, and we make a point to wave as we go past.
On the open road, like interstate and four-lane divided US highways, like to find a semi that is going a comfortable speed between 60 and 65, and just follow a polite and safe distance back.

I have a 2014 F150, 5.0 L, crew cab. Not towing on hiway and driving 70, I get about 19-20 mpg. When towing a 7000 trailer, I drive 60 to 65 and get 9 to 10 mpg.

Sounds identical, except XLT vs Lariat. I do have 2WD & the Ford tow package.

Since we chose not to change out the tires on the trailer at this time, our maximum speed we choose to tow is 60.
