Dealership oil change
We had a nice pull over to the opposite side of the state this weekend.
Took the kids to Michigan's Adventure. Had a great time at the campground across the street. I recommend them.
We got there uneventfully and unhooked, went to the park. The next am I got up to let the dogs our and noted a small puddle under the TV. That was a weird spot for condensation to drip off, especially since there was not much anywhere else. The A/C was not on since yesterday. I crawled under it and stuck my finger in it - oil -great.
I went under and saw it was dripping from around the oil filter. I cleaned it with a paper towel and was able to turn it 1/4 - 1/2 turn by hand!
So I went to the auto parts store and picked up an oil filter wrench to tighten it more. (On this Vortec engine you can only grasp 1/3 of the filter at a time.) I also picked up another filter in case it was a hole in the filter or faulty. Also picked up 7 qts of oil. 6 for a complete change and 1 to top off the engine.
This was the first time I ever had my oil changed by a dealership. I have changed my filters on my own vehicles since I was 16. Never had a leak of oil or a filter loosen up. What the heck!?! I am only having them do them as it's under warranty and the oil changes are included. Now I am due for another change. The only thing that does not add up is the oil / filter change was 3000 miles ago. But this was the longest pull we had and the longest ride I have taken the truck on. I can only assume it was either not fully tightened, there was debris on the contact surface of the block or they did not put a light coating of oil on the filter gasket.

I think you are correct it was never actually tightened enough and the vibration from driving loosened it more. I would remind the dealership to check this and then I would check it myself lucky you pay attention to your rig.

Time for another dealer and possibly a long talk with the service manager. Take a photo of the oil on the ground.

I thought of that, but I got busy with our vacation and forgot.
So far, no more leaking. I wonder if I ask for the oil and filter to do myself if they would do that as they are included for the first 2 years. I guess I will just have to check it afterwards.
Now I can return the extra oil and filter I bought. Or maybe I should keep it - "just in case."

I doubt if they will give you the oil and filter, but worth a try. Hard to find a good dealer.
I have had my oil changed on my '15 at a dealer in Moab when on a camping trip. I give him two 5-quart Mobil 1 containers, he supplies the filer and labor and due to the two years free (which is really two oil changes per year), I pay nothing.
Just drop off the vehicle in the AM, take the dogs over to the dog park and pick it up an hour or two later. But I trust them, since when living in Moab they serviced the '13 I purchased from them and my Hummer.
But I have to ask, you have a '13 Silverado, have you updated to a newer truck? My '13 did not come with fee service.

I normally change my oil but the last time the dealer changed the fuel filter I let them change the oil, they put the filter on to tight and I liked to have not got the filter off the next time I changed the oil. I can't change the fuel filter, GM should have made the Silverado easier to change the fuel filter

I bought it last year off their used car lot. SO it is still under their Certified Used Program and has another 55,000 miles on the drivetrain warranty and I forget how much more on the bumper to bumper warranty They also included free tire changes and oil changes for the first two years.
If they were not free, I would not have the dealer do anything. I am fairly handy and I have a mechanic I trust 110% with my vehicles.
