Absolutely love the DEF system in my truck, aside from one thing which seems to be a programming issue where it will drink quite a bit when pulling my toy hauler. I get around 1000mpg with normal driving. I equated it to roughly a 4-5 cent increase in the price of diesel, at about $3.70/gal. It's really not that big of a deal, doesn't smell like a diesel, puts out no smoke, fewer emissions, and is sadly cleaner than many gas vehicles. Truck has a gauge that operates no differently from the fuel gauge. I always fill up DEF at the pilot station.

My wife's 2014 BMW 328d also has DEF. They fill it for her at the 10k mile maintenance. Manual says it has a gauge within the NAV, but the option is just not in the system, so who knows how much is in there.

Once you start using the truck pumps- especially when towing, you'll loath having to go to normal pumps. They're just too dang convenient!

Also...I had made my own "cheat sheet"..and wrote down all the exit #s on I-75 for my trip thru each state... don't forget about Loves travel centers or T/A travel centers..those 2.. I usually pull into the semi pumps ..get the pump number ..and go inside to pay ..CASH..(less hassle)..good luck !..

For what it's worth- you can! Anywhere! We only use truck lanes while towing. Get diesel and def and it's so quick.

When I pull into the semi truck fueling stations, sometimes the nozzle on the pump is so large, it will not fit in the tank of my Dmax. Other times it's not an issue. Mine is an 03, did they start making the fill opening larger, or am I missing something?

The nozzles in the truck lanes are larger since they are high flow to fill larger semi tanks. When filling my d Max I do have to hold the nozzle since it will not fit all the way in the filter tube. Minor inconvenience

I've never had a problem at the truck pumps with my '11 or '13 D-max. I mainly use Pilots since I have a Fleet card though. Not sure if that makes a difference. The problem I've had with the DEF at the pumps, is that my tank is on the opposite side and no way of filling unless I go in backwards.

Can't use the truck pumps in my truck. Truck pumps are stubby nozzles and not long enough to open the 2nd door in the capless filler system. So far that hasn't been a problem, plus the Pilot station here that has DEF, has diesel priced 35 cents higher than the station by my house, so it's really no loss.
