Brand loyalty is the stupid.
I've owned one of everything from Japan to USA to Canada and heck even Mexico.
So carry on Mr hatchet man.
Damn shame these kinds of threads can't stay on track lol.

Cool man. Maybe we'll see you out there somewhere so I can check out your truck. May be in the market next season.

Alright now, not trying to start any flame wars here
I invite any and all to comment as they please!
I was just being a bit snarky to the wizkid for posting (wrong) info in an attempt to prop up the particular brand that he (or) she is loyal to.

SO, getting back to what was supposed to be a discussion of new engine technology . . . . and the benefits of said technology . . .
Here are other interesting aspects . . .
Fuel economy should be better because
V-6 should have less internal friction than a V-8
Higher torque allows towing at lower RPMs resulting in less friction loss
Twin variable cams should allow optimal lifts and durations
6 speed auto gives you more options to optimize your RPM vs load
6 speed auto also designed to spend most of its time with the torque converter locked (versus previous designs) thereby increasing efficiency
There is potential for even more torque output because
Tuners always get more out of turbo applications
The discussed ratings were at 87 octane; 91 octane output will be higher
The VW turbo that I mentioned was interesting. It definitely was more powerful and responsive on 91 octane; very noticeable. Interestingly, it also got 2 mpg better fuel mileage on 91; therefore the power gains were "free" as the cost of the higher octane gas paid for itself with better fuel mileage.

Shineyside! You must know me! HA! Yeah, I get new car fever and then there is only one cure. Well, these engines are not going to become available for about 6 months. And I'm thinking that there may be a complete re-design of the F150 in 2012 or 2013. I would like to see the truck get lighter and more aerodynamic; so am trying to wait. But wasn't it a line in Star Trek that said "Resistance is futile" . . . HA!

For me, I like a new product to be out a year or 2 before I buy......let the manufacturer work the kinks out so I don't have to.

Bob I know it's killing ya, so to add to your delema would you like to see some pictures of the eco boost being built.
I happen to work at the plant that builds them.

Was just looking at the 2011 towing guide from Ford...
Max Trailer weight with a Ecoboost V-6 in a SCREW 145" WB??
Try out 11,300Lbs with a 3.73 rear 2WD !!!
AND A GCWR of 16,900 LBS !!!
A V-6!!!! Can you Ford haters even fathom that? A Frackin V-6!!!
My God I love Ford!! They are THE Man!!
Man, I need a smoke......

Unless that V6 is a 6-litre, I think I'll stick with my diesel.
I don't care what the numbers are, there's no replacement for displacement.

Nope, just a scrawny little 3.5L....
While I am sure it will not be mistaken for a diesel, (in more ways than one, and not all of them good) it is more than respectable for a........
wait for it.....
A V-6!!!!
3.5 EcoBoost mill is rated at 365 horsepower (at 5,000 rpm) and 420 pounds-feet of torque (at 2,500 rpm) on regular unleaded gasoline.
Displacement is well and good but...real world, 99% of all the F150's on the road spend 99% percent of their time towing nothing but a bed full of air. Doing so requires very little displacement which requires very little fuel, which is what CAFE is demanding from the big three in MPG improvement requirements. For the occasional heavy tow, that truck is perfect. No, you would not want to full time with it hauling a 40' 10K Lb TT.... If you have not already figured it out, the days of the big nasty diesel in an everyday driver are coming to an end, uncle sugar is squeezing them to the point of extinction, go take a look behind the fuel door on a new diesel...next to the green fuel tank cap, a blue "Exhaust Fluid" cap!!! Yep, in addition to particulate screens and filter cleanouts and ridonkulously high EGT's that are burning out exhaust sytems, you get to add exhaust fluid to it.... The Fed is taking away all that was fun and cool about the diesel, they do not want them on the road anymore, at least not in an F250/350 2500/3500 anyway.....

That's why I am keeping my old workhorse, and all it does is pull our 5th. We'll have it for a VERY long time. And it is a real truck.

Yeah, one of my buddies has 1997 F250 with the 7.9 Dsl and he just keeps it to haul his horse trailer with living area, 40'
He said he is going to keep it forever and just keep fixing it as long as they keep making parts for it

My neighbour's brother-in-law has one with over 500,000 miles on it, and he is HARD on it. So I figure if I take care of mine, it will indeed last until I can't drive anymore. Mine only has 120,000 on it.
Yes, it is noisy and stinky , but it pulls like a bear!
I have a 2010 Dodge with the small V8 for my everyday driver. I absolutely love that truck, but I sure wouldn't use it as a puller.

I would LOVE to see some pictures. I toured the Rouge plant this summer and did the tourista tour of F150 assembly.
