Think I found me one. It's at 2006 Chevy 2500HD. 6 spd. Allison, fully loaded with 107k miles. The dealer is asking 20k. I had an inspection done on it which came back as a 95 out of 100. test drove it yesterday and it seems to be in great shape. Time to wheel and deal!

That sounds pretty close, a friend of mine just sold his 2006 Chevy 2500HD. 6 spd. Allison with 148000 miles for 16000. Sold in one week. One thing to check on is the injectors, have they been replace? A diesel mechanic friend of mine says they all need new injectors around 95000 to 135000 mile. I think that Chevy injector are about 3000 to have them replaced. Might be worth an aftermarket warranty. I love my 2007 with 48000 miles 11.5-12.5 towing 60MPH.

Sounds like a nice find.
2006 was a transition year for the D-Max - you may want to check to see if the truck has the newer LBZ motor or the older LLY - Some info at: TheDieselPage.com - 2006 Chevy/GMC Duramax Diesel 2500HD/3500 Pickup Trucks - August 2005

The motor is the LLY which was manufactured in 9/05. It does have the newer Allison 6 spd. From what I have read the LLY and LBZ have no real mechanical differences. The LBZ was factory programmed for higher torque and such. This can be done to the LLY with after market programmers.
