My old 7.3l gets 10-12 towing and around 20 when not. I may be one of the few but on my older truck I really like to use an additive. It makes a huge difference in making the engine quieter. I don't notice it help the mileage much but a smoother quieter running diesel can't be a bad thing. FWIW, my truck is tuned and modded.

You might take it in and have it reflashed. Maybe it's regening too much. While I tow less weight than you I get 11.5-12.3 towing our 5er. I also get 17-18+mpg on the hwy running 55-70mph. Towing I run 55-65mph. I have a 12 2500 CTD with 3.73 gears. I realize you have the DRW version but your mpg seem a little low running empty. I can tell when the trucks in regen if I'm cruising on the freeway. If I check the EVIC for mpg it will be around 14 when in regen and then it jumps to 17+ when the regens over.

Most guys just run a code reader to delete the CEL that you MAY get.
If you're in a state that requires EPA testing then you can't do this.

You can also do a SIMs delete. Take the DPF off and replace it with a thru pipe, add the SIMs and the ECU will think you don't need a regen. MPG will increase a little. But the best part is your oil will stay brown and your OCI will go to 5000 miles+

2006 GMC 3500 CC drw-empty I get 18-21 hwy. Can't wait to row with it. Don't feel too bad. With my previous f250 v10 Gasser, i got 12 empty and 4-5 towing... If I get 10 towing, I'll be ecstatic
