diesel question

I'm about to order a new Ram diesel. Never owned a diesel before. I've done a tremendous amount of reading, but still have some questions. Any difficulty with navigating truck stops? Is def readily available? What kind of mileage to expect? I own a FR Surveyor 5er. 10,000 gvw with 1700 pin weight. Don't really need it for this one, but see a CC Silverback in our future.

Cummins diesel in Ram is strong but LOUD. Have you driven it? DEF is not a big deal. In my Duramax, 5000 miles between fills.

I have an older F350 diesel and a 2016 Mercedes diesel MH. Diesel is easy to find. DEF is available on the truck island at many places for around $2.79/gal as I recall and one can get DEF in 2.5 gal containers at WalMart for under $10. DEF does have a shelf limit that is temperature dependent.

Fuel economy towing is hard to guess at and dependent on so many variables like terrain, speed and traffic. My F350 towing a 28ft TT 7500 lb got about 11-12mpg. I generally tow at about 62mph. I know the newer diesel trucks get better mileage when not towing but don't know how they do towing. I'm sure other with experience will chime in.

Good luck!

I sure would like to know your secret. The best I have been able to get is 19.9 highway and 10.9 towing around N. Georgia. I would love to get that kind of numbers.

The tires on my Sierra 2500HD are 70 psi. No rolling resistance.

I get 13-15 mpg around town (many lights). On the highway I have seen a high of 24, but usually 20-22. Towing 8000 lbs I average 11.5 to 13 mpg.

I took a 2018 3500 for a rather lengthy test drive last week. Loved it!
