Diesel towing 28mpg...
Just had a kid telling me how his uncles Cummins gets 28mpg while pulling a 40' gooseneck with two trucks on it. Guess i made a mistake buying my new to me GMC... Sheeeesh. Why does everyone think they need to lie. Who cares?

Some folks have " lie-o-meters" installed in their tow vehicles and have a need to pass this information on to mush-brain relatives.

For some reason people like to "lie" about gas mileage, prices paid for something (especially if you own same exact thing) and time it takes to go somewhere. Not sure why that is, but it is.

Don't forget temperatures too...
For some people it's their nature... some like to embellish more than others too...
A while back I commented to a neighbour on how hot it was when I was in Las Vegas in August 2010... He retorted back that I didn't know what hot was because he was there when it was 128*
Ummmmmm............. Jimmy.... the record high temperature in Las Vegas is 117*

No rig....just saying 28mpg is absurd in a truck, towing, when a little economy car gets very little better!

I have a 03 Ram 2500 with the Cummins Diesel 6 speed straight drive and I am lucky to get 25 to 26 mpg driving 55 mph on the interstate with no head wind and with nothing hooked to it. When I pull my 39' 5th wheel I normally see 12 to 14 mpg if I drive it around 55 to 60 mph on the interstate. This driving is mostly flat country. I have not driven much in the mountains yet. I guess that I am doing something wrong or I would be getting higher mpg.

Now that I think about it, maybe there was a Chevy behind pushing the whole load. Oh, that explains it.

You are definitely checking your mileage incorrectly. You need to find a long downhill stretch with a tailwind. Reset the mileage computer at the top, cruise at 50mph all the way down. Take note of the reading. Tell everyone this number and never "check" the milage again.
