my 05 silverado is just over 150K. in that time I have replaced 1 glow plugs, the belt, and shock upgrade. I really like the new trucks and the power they have, but mine is paid for and I will keep it till it dies.

I have 115,000 on my 2005 F-350, 6.0 Diesel. Kept renewing the warranty, the last one expired at 104,000 miles. Through the years I have received much more service from Ford than the policies cost. That said, I don’t want to pay cash for future repairs, I have a new Ram 3500 Larime on order.

Agree with Telstar. The warranties are cheap in comparison to having a problem out of warranty. I just traded a 2013 Ram 2500 that was in 22 times in 4 years. (I have no friends left due to the rides to/from work. JK) The last year was with an extended warranty that I purchased in year 3 after being in so many times. Mostly sensor issues. At $3k it STILL paid for itself. Loved that Cummins motor but I got in a friend's Ford. Huge interior in comparison. Being 6'6" it was the first I had been able to straighten my legs. Went with a decked Ford 3500 SRW diesel. Have only been service once so far. I STILL GOT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! You can deal with them on the price. Keep telling them no until it gets to YOUR price!

Agree on negotiating price for Ford warranty. Renewed mine three times, each time I paid $50.00 over dealer cost to cover processing. With the costs of these trucks they shouldn’t be making money on the warranty.
As for Ford vs Ram the selling points that made me switch were 1. I wanted a short bed and the new F-350 is only 11” shorter than my long bed. 2. Ram comes with exhaust brake, 3. Ram has available rear air bags. 4, Ram beat Ford in the 2018 Fast Lane Truck road test.

Fwiw....over 200k kills the resale value. If you plan trade...do it at 150-175... It matters.

My 03 DMax is running strong. Never left me stranded. No DEF or Cats or EGR. Had to do the injectors at 80 grand, but drove it awhile before doing the service. Only real issue, and should be good for another 100 grand. Love the Allison. Plenty of go power and fuel mileage. By the time I get rid of it, new ones will probably 150 grand.

That was my thought. I had all servicing done, on time, by Ford dealers. Oil changes, filter changes, tranny fluid changes, everything. Then at 129,400 BOOM!!

I am a slow learner as I purchased another Ford with the 6.7 diesel. Lightening never strikes twice, right?

Did you determine the failure mode and root cause? That matters.

I used to keep all my vehicles until they were old enough to vote. Now I keep 'em 'til they're OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK!

That goes for my '06 F250 6.0L SuperDuty SuperCab Short Bed SRW "4x4 Off Road."

NOT a big fan of extended warranties, but I sure understand why other folks buy them. You can call me a gambler, but it's a gamble whether you buy or don't buy warranty extensions.

Not yet. Truck is at a Ford dealer in WV waiting for the new engine. I plan to post here when I find out what went wrong.

Brothers '05 Chevy Dmax is still going strong with 360K miles on it. Had the injectors changed under warranty the first year, and one glow plug at around 90K miles. Only routine maintenance otherwise.

That seems to be the common denominator, have seen several working pulling trailers from the factory for delivery.

Had one fellow tell me when he started pulling trailers, when he would pull into the factory in the midwest him and one other guy had Duramaxs. That was in 06, by 15 he said the majority was GM rigs. His had 335,000 on it with no issues when I saw him in 2015. He only pulled trailers in the winter, fished in Alaska summer and fall, the good life he said.

Another lady I met at the dealership where we bought our Shockwave. She had 500,000 on her 2011. She said her husband's 12 had 250,000 on it and they have a SIL driving a 13 but she didn't know how many miles was on it. Said they have had such good luck with them they don't believe they will change brands.

With that said I hope to keep mine till I can't go camping. When that is who knows, we camp with people that are 82 years young, still riding 4 wheelers. I'm only 74.

Don't Forget State Sales Tax

Sales tax for a diesel one-ton with heavy suspension might be $3500 to $6500. First-year depreciation will be $9-14,000 higher than years 2-6.

Those costs alone are $12,000 rock bottom to maybe $20,000. Unlikely you'll need that in warranty-covered repairs.

Of course it's fun to have a new truck, so if you have the bucks, why not?

My 2011 dmax left me on side of road with less than 50k on it, but warranty out because of yr. coast me over 10 k to fix. Not saying I’d trade up just for warranty, but be prepared to pay
