Dinghy Towing - CRV or Equinox

Looking for a new suv for DW. Currently using a tow dolly behind our Georgetown to tow our vehicle. Would like the option in the future of towing 4 wheels down. The available options have decreased significantly. Is anyone using a CRV or Equinox as a dinghy? Would like to hear advantages and disadvantages of both. Thanks for your input.

There are no disadvantages to a CRV. Had ours 13 yrs still like new.

Having my Terrain, GMC equilateral to Equonox, rigged as toad today Bought specifically for that purpose. Installer states most popular toad after Jeep.
Get it back tomorrow and will let you know.

The Chevy weighs in at 3993lbs while the Honda is 3365. I bought my 2013 CRV for about $23k. I think the Chevy is more expensive. The Crv is very fuel efficient. I'm a Chevy owner but I also have three Hondas. I have towed two Crvs without any problems. I would recommend the Honda as a toad.

I've towed a 2001 and 2010 CRV. Both were great toads and got great gas mileage. We've got a fifth wheel now but still look at all the rigs that go by and see lots of Hondas being towed. I think you'll like towing 4 down.

I have a 2013 Lexington Ford E450 chassis with V10 engine and plan to tow a 2011 CR-V. This will be new to me as I have only done truck towing of a TT. What are some recommendations for hooking up the CR- V to the Lexington ?Etrailer recommended Blue Ox or Rodmaster equipment. Does the CR-V need an auxiliary braking system? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I've used Roadmaster tow bars on both of our previous toads and was happy with them. Most states will require supplemental braking for your toad. We used the Add a Brake system and it works well, although taking it in and out was a pain, but not hard.

We got everything at Camping World.

Oh, you'll also want to get the brake and turn signals wired up as well as the emergency breakaway device.

Too bad you aren't closer to North Carolina. I've got my 2012 Equinox LTZ for sale as we are moving back to a fifth wheel from a motorhome. I was convinced I was going to buy a CRV, but found the Equinox felt more roomier inside. Test them both. I have the 4 cyl Equinox and get great gas mileage.

You might want to check about pulling dash fuse vs, wiring charge circuit to CR-V battery.
I tow GMC Terrain behind 265GTS Lexi and it is a breeze.

Have towed an equinox behind a e450 class c and a DP. Great vehicle. Max speed for tow is 65 mph. Have not had any issues. Rigged a switch to the fuse that needs pulled, and just have to turn it off before towing, so battery doesn't discharge. Every fuel stop I run the vehicle for 5 minutes and haven't had any issues. Also use a Brake Buddy system. Equinox is a 4 cylinder and it gets good mileage.

I chose the Equinox over CR-V due to room and size. I have the 4 cyl two wheel drive and curb weight is 3770lbs, I use Blue Ox tow system and RVI 2 brake assist. My DW drives the Equinox as her car when not towing. I personally cannot stand the wind noise in CR-V and If you are 6 ft try setting in back seat then get out in hurry, almost impossible. Just my thoughts.
