Do I need a diesel?

Hi all, we just took delivery of a 2016 Sandpiper 371 REBH, and I currently have a 2012 F250 with the 6.2L. It has a max tow cap of 15,500 and right now my trailer weighs about 13,500 lbs. it has no issues towing like excessive high revs, but I personally want the warm fuzzy of having a diesel. But do I absolutely need one? They're expensive and if I'm fine with the gas then I'll stick with it.

What's the ccc of the truck your looking at?

You do not "need" a diesel, but I think you would like it.

What's the GVWR of your TV? That's what you should worry about. What will your 5er weigh when loaded? I have a diesel TV and have had 2 diesels since 2001. The latest is a 2011 GMC, 1 ton dually, 4x4, long box, crew cab. It pulls my 35 ft 5er with no problems. It also carries the weight of a 6o gal. fresh water tank full along with a 50 gallon fresh water tank, full, along with a 50 gal. aux fuel tank in front of the 5th wheel. I'm under the GVWR when I weigh 23,900 lbs TV & 5er, going boondocking. So it's something for you to chew on and then come up with a decision. Oh yes, I would say that my fuel mileage is fair at between 9.5 -13 mpg, depending on terrain and wind.

13,500 is the loaded weight with what we have in it now. The truck I'm looking at has a 16,400 lbs cap. I know it's only 900 lbs, but it's the fact of having the turbo.

I pulled my 14,000 lb sabre for one year with a 3/4 ton gas and said enough.
Duramax diesel coming up.
I'm glad I did it! No regrets!

You are OK with weight. 12,500 dry, 13,500 current loaded. 15,500 max tow rating. As long as you are not exceeding payload or rear GAWR ratings, then love the one you're with.

I would think, the more you tow, the more you would appreciate a diesel. Full timers, or those that take long trips every year.
