Do I Need To Upgrade My Tires?
The 2008 Duramax I just bought came with some Toyo HT tires (not the tuff duty). They are in new condition I'm not gonna upgrade them just yet but I am taking a camping trip this summer and I need to pull my 28' trailer about 350 miles. The tongues weight is 1000lbs. The tire rating says max weight is about 2350lbs. Overall trailer weight is about 7000lbs. Should I upgrade before my trip?

Many here know way more about this than I do, but if they are new and in good shape I'd go for it.

Tires upgrade !
No, as long as they have good tread, they will be fine. 350 miles is such a short trip that I would not worry about these tires. Many tow trailers 1000's of miles on the trailer manufacturer's cheap Chinese tires. You will have no problem with the Toyo's.

All I can say is when I got my 05 Silverado it had 4 new Toyo tires on it and we hooked to our 24' Kodiak and went 75 miles north of town to the Thousand Trails park. When I got back home 4 days later, I unhooked and immediately bought 4 new GY Fortera tires. (another big mistake). Got 30,000 out of the Fortera XL's and now have GY Wrangler LT LR E's. Sold the 4 Toyo tires for $120. Way too weak of sidewalls for me, as were the Fortera XL's.

The tires are on his truck. Do you know the size of the tire? Some of them are P and some are LT rated. If LT than no problem at all.

Correct Happy Vibe they are P. These are not the stock tires. The original owner wanted better mileage and comfort so he went with these. I'm assuming the P is for passenger?

You are correct. P=passenger. I towed a TT with two different trucks more than 15,000 miles, then two fivers on the same original p tires for another 10,000+. Never had a problem with traction, stopping or handling. Of course Lt I'd much superior. I just got my first Lt tires and really can't tell a difference other than rougher ride due to more psi. Glad I got them tho.

My Ram 1500 made a huge difference going to LT's. The factory Goodyear wranglers were too mushy side to side. But I would run those Toyos till you wear them down, New LT's can be a bit pricey. A rear swaybar under your truck helps a lot, as well. Randy
