Do weight distribution bars wear out?

As the title says...Do weight distribution bars wear out?

Maybe it's me (in my head), but it just feels like they don't do the job they use to. The trailer and hitch set-up is 7 yrs old. There is no more room to "shorten" the chain in the bars.

I am using the Reese, round bar (750lb) set-up.

I am towing the 2004 - Forest River - Flagstaff - 25L with a 2002 Chevy Avalanche 2500...I'm not towing more than I ever have but it just seems less effective...

Thoughts?

I am sure they do but I would think the springs/shocks on the TV would show wear first
