Question Do you keep hitch head and pin box painted ?

I just recently cleaned the grease off of both the pin box (on Revolution) and the hitch head (Reese Titan 16K).

Having left the hitch on the truck in the rain last night I can already see surface rust on the hitch head (which wasn't there yesterday).

My question is do folks keep both painted ?
And if so what do you use to paint them ?

I could try using spray paint on the hitch head but am concerned that I'd get paint on the locking mechanism, and likewise if I'm spraying the underside (mating surface) of the pinbox then I'd likely get some spray drifting up onto the front of the 5er ?

So do folks use a brush-on paint ?
Use a primer ?

Any (constructive) input appreciated
